Rep. Andy Harris threatens prosecution of student reporter for trying to record him after debate

A video taken by News4’s partners at The Baltimore Banner shows Rep. Andy Harris, R-Md., telling a student reporter from the University of Maryland that she did not have permission to record him and threatening prosecution.

“You do not have my permission to record! If you record, we will refer you to the prosecutor,” Harris told the student reporter.

“Everyone in here is recording,” the student reporter said.

But you are not allowed to. We are in a two-party state,” Harris said, citing Maryland’s Wiretapping and Electronic Surveillance Act, which makes it a felony to record private conversations without consent from both participants.

However, the law only protects private conversations, and recording is allowable in situations where there is no “reasonable expectation of privacy.”

This is only “news” when a Republican is involved.

Meanwhile in Maine, conservative reporters are constantly banned from events, harassed and even assaulted. No MSM news.

That may be true, but it is still retarded.

I guess it all depends on your definition of “reasonable expectation of privacy.”

Politicians these days must be some combination of actors, salesmen, and priests.

Like it or not, its the nature of the job and its 24/7

That’s why many normal people refuse to do it, and its increasingly attracting more and more psychopaths

Jefferson maintained the when a person puts themselves forward for a public trust they automatically give up all rights to privacy because how how else can the public judge that person’s fitness for that trust if not through their private actions.

No reasonable expectation of privacy.

The left has a loophole for every one of their actions it saves money on bribes.

Backstory is that Harris still attended the town hall after receiving credible death threats from the left that morning that threatened his family.

Maryland leftist scum are trying to gerrymander solely to eliminate him from office.

Leftist also packed the town hall and disrupted every word he said.

That makes his reaction a little more understandable. But he was still incorrect.

Full disclosure. He’s my congressman and was very close friends with a deceased friend of mine.
