Trump approves tiny ‘cars of the very near future’

President Trump said Friday he had granted approval for “tiny cars” to be built in the United States, a move that would expand the availability of similar smaller vehicles that are popular in Asia.

“I have just approved TINY CARS to be built in America. Manufacturers have long wanted to do this, just like they are so successfully built in other countries,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “They can be propelled by gasoline, electric, or hybrid.

“These cars of the very near future are inexpensive, safe, fuel efficient and, quite simply, AMAZING!!! START BUILDING THEM NOW!”

When toyota decided to compete with the big 3 full size P/Us they increased the size of the Tundra. The tacoma is now the size the old tundras used to be.

Considering both are assumed to now be lacking in quality, If I was in the market I’d seriously consider a Nissan Frontier.

Only naturally aspirated V-6 small truck left and built in the US.

I’d be just as concerned about being hit by a barge of batteries known as an EV.

There are a number of subdivisions like The Villages in Florida that are designed in part for golf cart commutes. Properly designed small cars would be safer and more suited to inclement weather. Indeed, small car lanes in cities would probably be more widely used than bike lanes.

“Sized properly to be used as coffin”

No need for coffin, if electric, built in cremation feature.

I hope Chevy makes the Chevy Love trucks again.
I loved those. My brother in law had one.
First stick I drove.
My first car I bought at 20 was the Toyota Tercel.
Also a stick.

I see a lot of comments that say
we need this or we don’t need that.

How about consumer choice?

And use the word I not we when
describing what you think we all need.

Democrat regulations has made the
purchase of a car extremely difficult for anyone.

Here’s an episode about the 1970 Electra 225 on a great YouTube channel called Rare Classic Cars & Automotive History:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UopYjM-yGt0

The guy behind the channel is a young executive at GM who loves the big land yachts of the ‘60’s and ‘70’s. He occasionally interviews the designers of those vehicles. They’re really old now but they’re still around and it’s fascinating to hear their stories.

A lot of hatred here in this thread. I’m seeing different things:

As a biker (not a weekend warrior but a primary motorcycle rider) all of these safety concerns of yours (the contributors in this thread) are pretty silly. Put simply: most of you drive vehicles that are too goddam big. Mind you, my car (!) is a 98 GMC 2500. Its now smaller than a Toyota truck.

Lightweight cars used to exist, and with modern steels used in modern engines these cars can easily see 60mpg and be fast as hell.

Auto driving cars rear end more motorcycles (at speed, no braking whatsoever) than most people realize. The cybertruck doesn’t meet any safety regulation, but it’s sold not as a car but as a “device” so it doesn’t have to meet vehicle safety standards.

Finally, put SXS vehicles on the road. These things are cool as hell.

You say all that like you think it’s a good thing.

It sounds like a truly pathetic way to live. Enjoy your fifteen minute city.

But, I would like to see JB Pritzker in one as an advertising campaign.

That would exceed the vehicle's max gross weight.

“What kind of traction do they get on snow and ice?”

From DuckDuckGo

About 71% of the contiguous U.S. receives measurable snowfall in an average year, with the highest amounts concentrated in the northern tier, mountainous West, and Great Lakes regions.

Almost 30% don’t worry about snow and ice.

Many Americans would love have a Kei truck. They aren’t really “tiny” but are very practical.
