A man armed with a gun and a knife was shot dead at a federal courthouse in Nashville on Thursday.
According to News 3, the attacker tried to discharge his gun but it wouldn't fire so he used a knife to attack the security guard.
The security guard fatally shot the gunman.
The gunman was identified as an out-of-state US Marshal.
The motive for the attack is unknown.
Local 3 News reported:
The shooter was identified as an out-of-state U.S. Marshal, who police say entered the front door armed with a pistol.
The gunman is dead and there is no threat at the courthouse at this time, police said.
Police say the shooter attempted to discharge his gun, but it did not fire. He then used a knife on a security guard, who shot the gunman.
The gunman was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

This is one story where the trust will probably never come out. They should have a good story ready by tonight, however.

NBC doesn’t say anything about him being a US Marshall, maybe he isn’t.

The man was from out of state. Investigators didn’t immediately know why he was at the courthouse, and a search of his car found “nothing threatening,” Aaron said.
I’m thinking “dressed” like a US Marshall.

The suspect’s identity has not been released. Police did say the man is in his 40s and is from out of state but “has ties to Nashville.” They did not elaborate on the exact connection.
Officers and police K-9s searched the suspect’s car and found nothing threatening.
Maybe what they meant was that he, the perp identified himself as a US marshal.
