Yankees’ season ends in bitter disappointment again as Rays sweep ALDS
California Post ^ | Oct. 7, 2026 | Greg Joyce

In the end, the Yankees really did run it back.

From the bulk of their offseason all the way down to a repeat October exit in the ALDS against the division foe who was simply better than them all season.

For the 17th straight year, the Yankees will not be World Series champions, this time falling woefully short of a 28th title as they were swept out of the ALDS in three games by the Rays in a 4-3 loss Wednesday night at a sold-out Yankee Stadium.

After the Yankees lineup let them down in Game 1 and their defense joined in to fail them in Game 2, their bats were held in check once again in Game 3 and Max Fried could not limit the damage, resulting in an all-too-familiar feeling in The Bronx.

The playoff run ended with Aaron Judge watching from the dugout, the Yankees unable to get deep enough to give their captain a chance to return from a right calf strain that he suffered in mid-September.

After they survived the three-time MVP missing over half of the regular season with a right rib stress fracture, the Yankees could not do the same in October.

Boo-hoo. Maybe this is punishment for electing Commie Mamdani.

Bitter?

No, they went out with grace. Spectator interference and all

TB is a better team, that’s all

Mamdani has notion do with it. Muslims don’t GAS about American baseball. That you can bet on

“Everyone should play a game for the Yankees. That way they’d know what it feels like to be hated by everybody.”

The Yankees do not particularly espouse Mamdani

Look to the spurs for their adherence to disrespecting the flag and their Muslim players

That’s Texas

You got more problems than the Yankees. At least after this game, the garbage truck will dump many over reaching contracts. Play the young guys who will do the real baseball stuff instead of swinging for the fences...

You missed the point: It’s punishment for New Yorkers, who have now watched their team go down after they Mayor Muzzie in office.

They still have The Knicks, though.

The Knicks win was enough for NYC this year.

True. But I don’t mind the Knicks. They were a long time between titles.

That’s why the games are played. Someone gotta win, someone gotta lose. Or it’s rained out.

Nothing disappointing about this season for the Yankees. They aren’t built to win championships. They are built to attract 3 million fans every season who are willing to pay exorbitant prices to be entertained by a lineup littered with at least a half-dozen guys who can’t play the field and strike out most of the time while hitting 15-20 solo home runs.

If you don’t believe me, just go back and watch some video clips from their dominant seasons in the 1990s — and notice how many empty seats there were at Yankee Stadium during the regular season while they were winning the World Series four times in five years.

Reasonably historic final four is possible with:
NLCS: Seattle Pilots/Milwaukee Brewers-entered AL in 1969 and later moved to NL with only one WS appearance (against St. Louis in 1982) versus Los Angeles (defending champions).

ALCS: Tampa Bay Devil Rays entered AL in 1997 as a new expansion team versus either Cleveland Indians/Guardians who last won in 1948 (longest current drought in MLB and second longest overall in the big 4 pro sports) or Chicago White Sox who last won in 2005 (which ended a drought that started in 1917 and included the 1919 Black Sox scandal) and would give a second modern day World Series title to the Sox if they were to win.
