Canadian winters threaten to freeze Europe
The Telegraph ^ | October 5, 2026 | Zia Weise

In the depths of the North Atlantic, a vast system of swirling currents carries warm tropical waters north, preventing Europe from freezing.

But as climate change takes effect, this oceanic heat pump will weaken and might even fizzle out. If it does, Europe could be plunged into far lower temperatures.

A colder-than-usual patch of water just south of Greenland, nicknamed the “cold blob,” has some scientists worried that this slowdown in the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) is already well under way.

Other researchers have examined climate models, surveyed sea temperature records and run simulations to conclude that the ocean could turn on us sooner than previously thought.

While this process would unfold over many decades, a severe slowdown or collapse of the AMOC would disrupt Europe’s agriculture, infrastructure, welfare and economy on a scale that would make this past summer’s heat and fires look like mild memories of calmer times.

The continent could face glacial winters and dry summers, surging sea levels and ferocious windstorms.

Until recently, this prospect was considered remote: A nightmare scenario trotted out to warn of the catastrophic dangers of unchecked climate change. But as research on the likelihood of a major slowdown or – less likely – a total collapse mounts, governments are beginning to take it seriously and trying to work out how to minimise the damage.

The United Kingdom is spending millions on an early-warning system. Iceland has declared an AMOC collapse a national security risk. The Netherlands is investigating what a slowdown might mean for its sea defences. Finland is examining the potential consequences. And Nordic ministers have begun discussing the threat.

Theory presented as fact.

This is hilarious, Europe is going to freeze from global warming hahaha. These global warming folks are dumber than believers of space aliens.

But, But, But? School children in England were going to never get to experience snow, skating, or sledding according to the leftist media as little as 18 months ago.

You can tell when the seasons change ---
Only a month ago the panic was over Global Warming: "hottest summer on record", "A/C is destroying the world", etc.

This month is cooler, so now we're all gonna freeze.

Finland is examining the potential consequences. And Nordic ministers have begun discussing the threat.

Probably secretly wondering how they can convert their sweat lodges, banyas, and bath houses into Hawaiian-style cabanas. Probably thinking about redesign their stuffy tearooms as breezy sidewalk cafes.

So this:

instead of this:

Stories of pending doom because of Gulf Stream strength waning has been going on for decades. But there is precedent: [Copilot] The Younger Dryas precedent — a real abrupt cooling event ~13,000 years ago, where Europe plunged back into near‑glacial conditions. This was linked to disruptions in North Atlantic circulation.

I thoroughly believe in climate change! Why just last week here in Georgia temperatures changed from a blistering 98 to a comfortable 75!

No matter which way this particular situaton works out, that particular scientist who correctly predicted it will want to take the credit just as if he had actually caused it. Just a thought.

That is naturasl climate change, just like any of it. Some of it, though natural, still might seem a little harsh.
