The 2026 Dog Photography Awards have recognised photographers from around the world, with around 1,900 entries submitted from 50 countries.
The competition says it aims to highlight the work of established dog photographers alongside emerging talent, with images judged across six categories: Portrait, Action, Studio, Dogs & People, Documentary and Open.
The 2026 prize pool includes €2,500 ($4,000 AUD) in cash and an engraved trophy.
Katie Brockman from the United States was awarded the title of Dog Photographer of the Year for her portrait of a pit bull, a species she describes people holding complicated feelings for.

We got an 8 week old AKC Black Labrador puppy a couple weeks ago. He is the picture of a Lab. A beautiful dog.
“I’m with Stupid”...
I LOVE Labradors! I have had three. Two Black Labs; Cinder and Murphy and a Yellow Lab, Miss Lucy.
They were all wonderful dogs - smart as heck. Labs really keep you on your toes.
Will you hunt waterfowl with yours? Ours were just family pets.
I liked that one, too. :)

We too had a Black Lab and he passed at the unreal old age of 17 years. This will be a replacement of a family pet. However, I will train him in the ways of a retriever just in case. My father was a lead dog trainer for a big hunting establishment and I still remember the process. This is a smart puppy already so I suspect he will make a good gun dog if we decide to hunt him.
Good for you!
I raise Treeing Walker Coon Hounds and Plott Hounds for hunting raccoon and black bear.
I’m in charge of the pups as they grow and teach them the basic commands, then Beau and the ‘older dogs’ train them to hunt.
This season I raised two Plotts and one Walker Dog; all are up at Bear Camp right now in WAY northern Wisconsin, hunting black Bear. The two older ones (Midnight & Grover) have both treed a few bear already and they are under a year. Omaha is the Walker Dog and he’s still learning to ride in the dog box without barfing and learning about life on a chain or in a kennel. Beau says he’s doing well. He lets him run around a few times a day and they work on ‘Come! Sit! Stay!’ I can’t wait to see him in another few weeks. I hope he remembers me!
Omaha is Puppy #30 that I’ve raised over the past 10 years. Many have gone on to be Champions for others with my Emma Jolene (who we still own) being both a Nite Champion (for hunting raccoon) and a Bench Champion just for being pretty, LOL! It hasn’t gone to her head. Yet.
A number of years ago I raised ‘Sunshine’, another Walker Dog and the first year out of the gate she was the Top Dog for raccoon hunting in the entire state of Minnesota! I’ve seen her a number of times since at various events. She was another HUGE success story. Her sister ‘Lefty’ hunts in Tennessee. She’s good, but not as good as Sunshine. :)
I love dogs beyond all reason. :)
Labrador Retrievers are the most beautiful dogs there are. I have a black Lab and my wife has a yellow Lab. Previously we had a chocolate Lab. All of them just the sweetest and gentlest dog you could ever hope for.
My black Lab Elly.
It can be difficult to photograph a Black Lab due to a lack of photons.
I took posession of a TWC a few years ago when my friends needed to rehome them. He was an absolutely terrible fit for our family, BUT, he was the silliest, sweetest and most evil genius smart dog. I truly miss him, although he was not the best dog for us.
But man, he was a character. My Dingo adored him and they were truly like Will Farrel and John C Riley in “Stepbrothers”.
My breeds are the German ones. I love Rotties and dobes — but that Walker Hound was hilarious. Chaos in canine form, and yes, he liked climbing in our house. When we found him ON TOP of the China Cabinet... and NONE of our china or glassware was damaged, we knew he had total Ninja powers...
Looks like it is waiting for the squirril to move.
Awwwwsome!
Your lab reminds me of our rescue, Sammie, who was the sweetest dog ever. She had some beagle in her, because she sounded like Snoopy sometimes. Alas, she was not quite 13 when cancer took her. Thanks for sharing your photo of Elly; she’s a beautiful girl.
I’m going to try and grab a picture of Elvis(the Lab Elvis) nd post it here...
