Tennessee death row inmate Christa Pike will likely have brain damage after her botched execution, during which she chillingly lifted her head and asked if the pain she was feeling was normal.
Pike, 50, was rushed to the hospital Wednesday after the Tennessee Department of Corrections administered two doses of the highly potent sedative, Pentobarbital, but it failed to kill her.
The murderer, who was sentenced to death for the monstrous 1995 slaying of a classmate, was “being provided life-saving measures” in the hospital, her lawyers said – but she likely has a brain injury as a result.
Emory University School of Medicine professor Dr. Joel Zivot – who was retained by Pike’s legal team as a medical expert – told the BBC that the amount of the lethal drug pentobarbital in her blood likely never reached a level high enough to stop her breathing and heartbeat.
“It’s very possible that as a consequence of the delay of the beginning of resuscitation she will have a brain injury,” Zivot explained.

They give Fentanyl patches at the lowest dose to cancer patients for pain relief.
A big dose will do you in. Like Cindy Crawford’s son.
I am not against capital punishment. But I take no pleasure from it. If we are going to do it then it needs to be done competently. These executioners likely purposefully screwed it up. Enough barbiturate is 100% fatal in all cases. So now we will have a brain damaged prisoner kept alive who likely will have no idea what’s going on. Well done.
She’ll be a poster child for those against the death penalty .
They’ll have a statue in her placed in front of the courthouse.
Pharmaceutical fentanyl is routinely administered as part of being anesthetized.
Recently I had a series of procedures involving my esophogus and my exit paperwork showed the anesthesiologists using fentanyl for all 5 procedures
But yeah it surprised me at first but in the right hands it’s safe.
The key word is “Pharmaceutical”.
Propofol and Fentanyl. Get Michael Jackson’s doctor.
Oxy was safe at one point.
Anne Greene (1650): Hanged in Oxford for infanticide, she was revived by surgeons after being pronounced dead. The public viewed her survival as divine intervention, leading to her pardon; she later married and had children.
Margaret “Half-Hanged” Dickson (1724): Hanged in Edinburgh for infanticide, she revived in her coffin en route to burial. Under Scots Law, which prohibited punishing someone twice for the same crime, she was declared dead and released, living another 40 years.
John “Half-Hanged” Smith (1705): Hanged at Tyburn for housebreaking, he survived for 15 minutes before being cut down. The crowd’s demand for a reprieve led to his release, and he was later transported to America.
Inetta de Balsham (1264): Hanged for harboring thieves, she survived three days on the gallows due to a deformed windpipe. King Henry III granted her a royal pardon after her survival was witnessed.
Joseph Samuel (1805): In Australia, he survived three botched hangings where ropes snapped or slipped. The Governor ruled these were signs of divine innocence, commuting his sentence to life imprisonment rather than execution.
I wonder what ‘divine innocence’ meant to them. I’m sure guilt of the original offense wasn’t questioned in some cases.
Requested all lady execution squad and got a predictably shoddy result.
No, just get the teams that Florida uses. Seems to work there just fine.
Treat her like a post-birth abortion.
MAID for TV movie, I suspect.
The doctor that administered the lethal injection was a man.

Thinking the same. The guy has a history.
Gov’t execution for punishemt of a crime is unjust DOUBLE JEAPORDY. That is why you’ll always have problems with it.
In actual fact, whether you are religious or not, 2000 years ago, Jesus Christ took the complete condemnation, punishment, and death for the sins of the whole world (1 John 2:2). Christa Pike’s crime was already paid for on the cross of Christ.
If she needed to be incracerated for life to protect the public, fine. But punishment by death is unjust DOUBLE JEAPORDY (2 Corinthians 5:19).
Again, Jesus Christ’s death on the cross was a fact of history 2000 years ago and you don’t have to be religious to know that.
Worse outcome.....
