Desperate Gen Zers and millennials are turning to online gambling and AI to claw their way out of crushing debt — in part because of the “approachability” and “judgement-free advice” from computers, according to a new survey.
Sports betting, prediction markets like Polymarket and Kalshi, fantasy sports, day trading and even old fashioned casino gambling aren’t just hobbies — or addictions — anymore; they’re financial survival strategies for cash-strapped adults, according to a new poll from National Debt Relief and Wakefield Research.
A whopping 65% of Gen Z and 49% of millennials who regularly gamble say they have done so to try to eliminate a chunk of their debt, compared to 39% of Gen X and 19% of boomers.
And when it comes to guidance, AI has become a personal financial guru, according to the survey of 2,000 US adults above the age of 18.
An eye-opening 69% of millennials and 64% of Gen Z report using AI for money advice during financial struggles, compared with 45% of Gen X and just 23% of boomers.
The survey found “judement-free advice” and “AI’s approachability” was a major draw for using AI to manage their money matters.
Sixty-five percent of millennials and 53% of Gen Z reported they felt more comfortable talking about their financial woes with computers rather than with family and friends, according to the poll.

AI will eat their Lunch ,LOL
Oh Mr Sandman, bring them a brain....
AI will be steering them to Nigerian princes in no time.

I must admit, I have though several times about placing a “trade” on Kalshi on the Texas Senate winner race. They have Talarico at a 63% chance of beating Paxton, which I cannot believe.
Plenty of gambling and booze, if it didn’t work would so many people try it.
I hate gambling. So silly. Especially gambling on sports.
My friends that do gamble, one in particular, always brag about their big wins. When I bring up bid losses they just grumble.
My idea of gambling is deciding how much I’m willing to lose for fun in a casino. Usually $100.
I sat in a casino in Vegas once playing quarter slots for 4 hours on $20. I drank more than $20 in free booze.
The last three times we went to Vegas we never went to a casino. One of my brothers used to live there.
RE:...who regularly gamble ...to try to eliminate a chunk of their debt...
So the house doesn’t always win overall and the young people get rich? Should have tried organized crime.
My sister in Massachusetts when she was in her thirties had an acquaintance who was an errand boy level guy for a crime syndicate. He kept telling her she should join up, as he drove a luxury sports car, wore expensive clothes and had lots of cash to spend.
She and her friends never learned why but he was suddenly found face down in a muddy ravine, his hands zip tied behind his back, dead. Occupational hazard.
Not a great idea.
AI is advising Gen Zers and millennials to gamble as a way to “erase their debts?”
Some people have to find out the hard way...
Let me know when Polymarket and Kalshi go public, sounds like they might be good investments.
“approachability” and “judgement-free advice” from computers...
They don’t want to live in the real world, where real work and real responsibility and putting in the time to get someplace is involved.
Contrast the quality of retirement life nowadays for folks who’ve worked hard and saved all their lives, with what retirement life will be like for these young folks 40 years from now. Yikes.
Gambling to help fix debt...these idiots are wrong on everything.
If you want to increase the possibility of making money in a casino...invest in casino stock.
This new Meta personal assistant. The one that takes virtually all of your information and does things like call that help line that makes you wait for two hours, finally gets an answer and then calls you. Great idea, no?
I wonder when, given some prime directive to make money, AI just decides to clean out every bank account known to man, debits every credit card, garnishes every wage and reassigns title to everything of value?
Talk about a hacker!
It could never happen, right?
I suspect increased gambling is causing sports salaries and gambling site advertising to soar.
