The star pass rusher threw a punch at an Alabama player, argued with coaches on the sideline and drew Shane Beamer's ire for loafing as the Gamecocks fell to 0-2 in SEC play
South Carolina defensive end Dylan Stewart has been suspended indefinitely, coach Shane Beamer announced on Sunday. Stewart, a potential All-American and first round pick, had multiple off-field antics during a 49-18 loss to No. 8 Alabama.
Stewart threw a punch at the helmet of Alabama tight end Josh Ford after the Crimson Tide scored a fourth quarter touchdown to push the lead to 42-18. The officials did not appear to see it and he was not penalized for it. Earlier in the game, Beamer was seen shouting at Stewart for loafing to the sideline after committing a penalty.
"I'll make the decision on what his future looks like," Beamer said. "There's a standard of how we do things in our program. It's beyond the punch."
Stewart was a five-star recruit in the Class of 2024 and one of the most significant recruits of the Beamer era at South Carolina. The junior posted a combined 22.5 tackles for loss and 11 sacks in his first two seasons with the program. He had yet to record a sack as he worked his way back from injury.
Retaining Stewart -- along with quarterback LaNorris Sellers and receiver Nyck Harbor -- was the top priority over the offseason. However, South Carolina's season is on life support after a 2-2 start, including 0-2 mark in SEC play. The Gamecocks have three straight games against ranked opponents as Beamer's job security dips quickly.
South Carolina plays No. 24 Kentucky at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday.

The guy must be beyond stupid if he's punching helmets. Good way to break a hand. When Woody Hayes was coaching, he was smart enough to punch under the face guard.
Sadly, he’ll just go to the portal and get paid.

I figured for sure the coach was telling him to clean out his locker. But next defensive series he was back in the game.
Can not believe the referee did not eject him for that stunt. If I were the Texas A/D, I would have run on the field, stopped the game and sent that player to the locker room. Sarkesian should be suspending him.

Can’t do that. Steve Mariucchi suspended Terrell Owens for a game after celebrating a TD on the Dallas logo at the 50 yard line. Did it twice. Half the team was ok with it. They never did get along after that. You can say it’s a black thing. Mariucchi was made to fly to an Atlanta meet-up to patch up their differences-didn’t work. Coach should have refused and risk a firing. The NFL(+49er) suits are scared of blacks and this showed it. It kinda reminds me of the controversy with Henry Gates and the cop that arrested him in his home. Obama ended it with a ‘beer summit’. The cop, like Mariucchi had no choice in the matter.
Those 2 football players are top pass rushers who will get $100 million NFL contracts when the 3rd year of their 1st contract is complete. That’s 4 years from now.
Looking back I gotta admit one thing: Those Terrell Owens celebrations couldn’t have happened to a better set of bad guys who were really full of themselves.
Shane Beamer can drop him from the team, wait a couple of days and then resign. He’ll go down as a martyr.
This drama is good for somebody’s bottom line. Might be the advertisers. The racial element makes it even better.
Someone is headed to the portal to play for Portland State.

There is film of the coach’s presser after the game and it was sad. Guy won’t miss a minute.
