The president is skeptical that Tehran will meet his demands
President Trump has rejected Iran’s proposal for a seven-day ceasefire and has told aides he expects to resume bombing Iran after the November midterms, U.S. officials said.
Tehran’s proposal would have reopened the Strait of Hormuz and resumed nuclear talks in return for the U.S. lifting its blockade of Iranian ports, which is causing deep damage to the country’s economy. Trump says openly that Tehran is begging for a deal after the midterms that dismantles its nuclear program.
But privately Trump is skeptical Iran would meet his demands and has told his staff that he sees a renewed bombing campaign as likely, the officials said.
Trump’s current position indicates the conflict’s stage—a liminal space between war and peace—is likely to tilt back toward hostilities. But the president, who has declared victory since the earliest days of the seven-month fight, alternates between pursuing diplomacy, ordering airstrikes and tightening sanctions around Iran. His views today could shift as the war drags over the coming weeks, officials said, and could be affected by the results of the midterms.
The level of strikes Trump is contemplating couldn’t be determined. He is reluctant to resume major combat operations, the officials said, partly because the U.S. wants to reserve dwindling munitions for other contingencies. But Trump has also announced massive attacks to push through diplomatic deadlocks in U.S.-Iran negotiations, sometimes following through but always stepping back from his most audacious threats, including wiping out the entirety of Iranian civilization.
Trump told the United Nations this week politics don’t enter his mind when aiming to pry nuclear fuel from Iran.

I actually don’t agree with all of your points, but did not see it fruitful to debate individually. Your last, about Regime change is even more difficult. Who is actually in charge in Iran? No deal is ever honored by them. No attempt to negotiate is ever in good faith. This has been consistent for decades. Who gives the orders for the worldwide terrorist attacks, help and support of Bin Laden and Al Queda? I noticed a huge draw down when Soleimani was eliminated. Boots on the ground to Regime change who? I doubt that there is a snakes head to cut off, but there might be a beast to starve.
Add this to your list: Lying to Americans repeatedly about what has actually been going on over there.

I guess the one thing that bothers me the most is knowing that we may likely be running low on munitions. They had best be getting with increased production on those items deemed necessary or Trump may be soon running on empty.
paranoid dreams? All boomer jingoism aside, can we have a brief moment of honesty? Seriously? Iran has been trying to kill Americans and Israel since 1979. The IRGC government model is based on destroying their enemy, which they have attempted to do by killing thousands of Jews, Christians, Americans, etc., and by orchestrating terrorism around the world against the Great Satan US and the Smaller Satan Israel (meaning western values). If they sign a peace deal or agree to coexist with the west, the IRGC is dead, so they will never agree to peaceful coexistence. JUST LIKE THE ROMAN EMPIRE 2000 years ago could never coexist with Carthage, the religious fanatics must destroy the west. If we can have a brief moment of honesty, the IRGC would drop a nuke on the US and Israel the first chance they got because it was in ‘their’ prophecies. Iran must fall from within to have lasting peace with the West, and they must have a mutual beneficial relationship. That is why Trump is trying to end their economy and keep them from controlling oil flow for Europe.
Why wait? Bomb now—better yet support the Shahs son, arm his people. Level their Holy City. Seize Karg Island—a single Mother of all Bombs might do the trick. The gloves must come off. In a war it is all about winning or losing.
The cascade of never-ceasing failures stems from that fact.

1) I think the failure is that Trump expected “large” help from our allies in keeping Hormuz open. I’m also not sure he was properly briefed by Hegseth on our logistics weaknesses and the difficulty of knocking out “all” of Iran’s missiles and drones, especially lacking that support I just mentioned. So, we ended up striking with too little / few assets and had to pause, giving Iran time to recover assets too...

6) Again agreed, but I would point out that Saudi Arabia, for example, reportedly was supportive at least to the point of encouraging the US to attack, and then got cold feet when Iran was able to hit SA.
7) Mostly agreed, and really, such an effort would require a lot of lengthy “prep” work.
8) Agreed, tho’ reportedly at least one Kurdish group (one MUST NOT think of them as a monolith) took arms and then kept them instead of attacking Iran. My guess is that the on-and-off again nature of US support for the Kurds was not exactly hekpful, and, the arms may have not been nearly enough except to get a lot of Kurds killed. AQnd... Were we ready to add massive air support? (See “1”.)
9) IMO the most basic of the goals were laid out fairly well by Trump and Rubio (destroy Iran’s nuke capabilies and force them to agree to not recover / rebuild, destroy Iran’s conventional military capability, and destroy Iran’s missile capability), but how to get there such that they cannot recover has been all over the place.
10) Agreed - and initially doing so (see “1”) set a bad pattern, esp. given that we did send a lot more capacity to the ME by the end of the “MOU”. OTOH, IRAN was able to force us to retreat from some of our ME land bases because we gave Iran too much time to recover missiles and launchers.
11) I don’t think the Euros were gonna help anyway, but, we should have resolved that months in advance, and prepared for it. While I generally like Rubio, that was a big “miss” by him, as that IS his wheelhouse, as Sec. of State, so to speak. BTW, did you mean “Greenland”?
I still maintain that as soon as we’d achieved maximum effect and disarray in Iran, given what assets we DID have available in “Epic Fury”, the second Iran did / continued with any sort of significant counterattack, after negotiations were initiated, we should have taken out a very focused objective: their refined products capability. This could easily be done, mostly with cheap, ukie style drones, plus a few airstrikes here and there. — Not their entire oil infrastructure, just refined products. Take out half, the 1st 24 hours (easy), and half way through tell Iran they have 24 hours further to cease their missile and drone attacks, and if they don’t, on the 3rd day they will lose the rest of their distillation towers, any significant storage, and any remaining import facilities / logistics. That would utterly “hose” Iran.
To all the above I would add: Major failure to maintain a proper response to the army of Russian / Iranian / Chinese / North Korean / TDS / etc. trolls, tools, operatives, and dupes, infecting all of social media. And... what agit-prop have we really laid on / into / at the population of Iran?

Wrong. Iran has very vulnerable key logistics without which it literally cannot function / be run. Just one, refined products (NOT the entire oil infrastructure!) would do the trick. We could easily do it in 2 days, with the best timing having been at the end of “Epic Fury”, mostly using cheap ukie style drones. I’ll bet Z-man would trade ‘em for a couple Patriot missiles, and promises of a few more after Iran crumbles.
Imagine trying to run Iran without refined products. Trump is just unwilling to take it out.
Iran is killing Jews? On 7 April 2026, an Israeli airstrike made the decision to destroy the Rafi’ Nia synagogue in downtown Tehran, killing every Jew in it. Israelis will not tolerate 15,000 Jews in a middle eastern community outside of Israel and beyond their control, so there was no love lost there. The Iranian Jewish community is free to legally leave Iran and immigrate to Israel, but they choose not to.
Yes there are synagogues in Tehran and all over Iran and yes, there are tens of thousands of Jews, living in peace, and able to practice their religion in Iran- 6,000 in Tehran alone. These are uncomfortable facts that the CIA/Mossad propaganda machine make sure you don’t bump into.
Ukraine gets very little if any support from the US for its drone campaign against Russian refineries. It doesn’t need it. Most of the tech has been around for decades, and Ukraine has some good engineers, too.

I cannot imagine that lasting very long since Democrats will likely be retaking control of congress and their 1st order of business will likely be to do the same thing to the Iran conflict they did to Vietnam in 1973....end it by defunding it...abruptly.
I think it’s more than Trump’s aversion to bloodshed, it’s his aversion to pain and death. The tactic I described above, taking out a single critical logistic, WOULD be painful to the population. However, I maintain that IN TOTAL (accumulated pain & death?), it would be less painful, even only considering Iran, than siege warfare.
And your alternative is?

Iran has been at war with the US since 1979? By that you mean the Iranians overthrew the installed puppet Pahlavi, I guess that’s accurate. You have to look at it from above-God’s eye view. The first shots fired was a war of choice in 1953 called Operation Ajax, in which the CIA gleefully conspired with Britain at the behest of British Petroleum to overthrow the elected Iranian government of Mohammad Mosaddegh because he had the temerity to nationalize Iranian oil for the benefit of the people. That was the big crime that Britain and the US couldn’t tolerate. Khomeini and the revolution was the result of that imposed war.
You don’t see China, Russia, India etc engaging in stupid greed-based adventurism like the CIA and MI6 is famous for. They also have no intention of becoming Shia colonies. They’re dealings are based in economic partnerships, and mutual benefit. That’s why they’re not a legitimate enemy like Israel and the US are. The reserve currency dollar is falling, BRICS is rising, drones are levelling the playing field and countries have choices today that they didn’t have before. It’s a new world.It really isn’t that hard.
