President Donald Trump was highly complimentary of New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) when speaking to the press outside Gracie Mansion on Monday.
The feed was provided by Spectrum News NY1 and taken by CNN in the midst of the White House press pool pushing back on Trump’s ban on CNN, MS NOW, and Politico.
In his remarks, Mamdani said the two discussed, “how we can make it easier to afford life in this great city that we call our home.”
Trump called Gracie Mansion “a special place,” adding, “I’ve seen it with numerous different mayors. And I said some great ones and some not-so-great ones. So, hopefully you’re going to be a great one,” Trump directed at Mamdani.
He continued:
I’ll be able to say, you’re going to be a great one, and you’re off to a start. So, I just want to thank the mayor for the invitation. I’m in New York to do the United Nations tomorrow. I have a lot of meetings right now today, very important meetings, with heads of different countries. But this is like a little bit of old home week for me because so many things we’ve done, so many things from the beautiful home or house or building standing right behind me.
When taking questions from the press, Trump said Mamdani had the “potential” to be a “great mayor.”
“I certainly hope he will be a great mayor. You have to understand, I want what’s good for New York,” Trump said of his hometown. “I want what’s good for the country. So, if I had a choice of having him be a bad mayor or horrible mayor, I don’t want that. I want him to be a great mayor, and he’s certainly got potential, got great potential.”
Trump has been highly critical of Mamdani, a democratic socialist, recently ripping the New York mayor and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) as “terrible” for “laughing” during a ceremony for the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks. In fact, the two were warmly greeting each other, not “laughing” as reported by MAGA pundits.
Trump has referred to Mamdani as a “communist,” and Mamdani has hit back at Trump, calling him a “fascist.”
When the two met at the White House, however, Trump was very complimentary of Mamdani, saying he was “better looking in person,” in a cozy meeting that shocked the political world.

How is Mamdani an enemy that could in anyway threaten Donald Trump’s presidency?
By your logic, he should buddy up with Gavin Newsom and AOC.

Sorry but beginning to wonder if the stress of this disaster in Iran, the potential loss of Congress and the constant unrelenting attacks is wearing Trump down and he is not what he once recently was.
Trump can kiss the muzzies behind all he wants. the muzzie will still come after trumps real estate holdings in NYC. Trump should be smacking the red/green alliance down, not propping it up in any way, even as a joke.
Trump lives in NYC and will return there after 2028.
