I was happy to stop reading Latin in 1966, after my last Regents exam. Although I see some form of it every day in English. Hated it, but glad I took it.

Latin is a very useful language to learn. But I’ve never thuught it was very ‘beautiul’.

Polymathy is a Youtube site devoted to Latin that is run by an American professor. It includes a video in which he walks the streets of Rome asking questions of passersby in Classical Latin. No one can understand him, and some get angry, thinking this is some sort of a put-on. He finally finds someone who knows enough Latin to hold a conversation.

In another video, he walks around the Vatican speaking Liturgical Latin, the version used by the Catholic Church and in sacred vocal music. This time, he has no trouble finding folks with whom he can converse.
