During the 2012 presidential campaign, Barack Obama infamously told business owners, “If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that.” Obama argued individual success was fake, instead, success depended on other people. Republicans heard the real point: Obama was trying to diminish the work, sacrifice, and legacy of successful business owners.
Dan McLaughlin understood the problem at the time. “If you convince people that success has little to do w/work & merit, you justify more burdens on successful.”
Fair point. People who build something deserve credit for building it. But that principle should apply not just when the achievement belongs to a single business owner, but to generations of Americans whose families built this country from nothing and have sustained it thus far.
Heritage Americans (of which I am proudly one, sorry McLaughlin) cleared this land, founded towns, raised churches, built the very institutions we use today, fought for independence, settled our frontier, defended this country, cultivated its land, and handed their descendants a nation worth inheriting.
Acknowledging that debt simply means giving the people who built and have preserved the country the credit that McLaughlin once insisted successful builders deserve.
Yet in a milquetoast piece that can be found in National Review, McLaughlin dismisses the notion of Heritage Americans as “massively overrated and counterproductive.”

“Heritage Americans” didn’t do anything. Your ANCESTORS did. But for that’s just an accident of birth. Those of us whose ancestors got here later don’t owe YOU anything. We all might owe ancestors, but not you. Accomplishment is not inherited.

One can honor what our families built while fighting and dying and living hard, by not trying to overthrow and replace the nation they built, as is being done, but instead in trying to duplicate and continue their greatness and what made them great, which also requires honoring and knowing how this nation was created and how unique the people were and had to be, to create it, and why newcomers need to resemble them in type, which is hard to find in the modern world, which of course means very few newcomers and carefully filtered.
So I guess that Dorkbama the incompetent cannot thank anyone, because he’s NEVER had a real business that could do anything except escrete press releases. He is, and always will be, a total turd capable of only becoming a DemocRAT polition.

Just think how different things would be in the USA right now if the descendants of slaves taught their children to be proud of and grateful to their ancestors for surviving the miserable and totally unfair lives that they led as slaves long enough to bring their ancestors into this world.
Whatever it means, I disagree with the concept that anyone can take any kind of credit or status from something other people did, whether they are your ancestors or not. They were their accomplishments, not yours.
Just because Daddy did something doesn't make YOU special.
The reason Obama & Co have such contempt for their supporters is their own disbelief that their rubes could fall for such bs.
They degrade all things of value such that if they demand surrender it would not be such a big deal. The hate America crowd would not be willing to defend and support an evil nation.

yes. I did the research and documentation for one of my ancestors to get into the SAR but let my membership lapse. They still come after me for membership fees.
I did all the kinds of research you mentioned years ago. I was in and out of court houses and county libraries all over central pennsylvania and I even went out to the mormon geneological center in salt lake city. (I wish I had gone there first. they have all the records in one place.)
But then I hired a geneologist to fill out the application.
For some reason I found that task to be more daunting.
That’s awesome. But yeah, it’s costly $$$ wise.
My ancestors were fairly well-to-do Puritans who arrived in Boston in 1632. They went on to found the city of Milford, Connecticut, New Haven Colony in 1638.
They collectively bought the land from the Paugussett Indians. They formed a trading post and farmed. AND kept an eye out for the Dutch trying to do the same up from New Amsterdam. They’d occasionally took musket fire at each other, but no one was ever killed, according to history.
Like Austin Powers, the hated the Dutch.
