Two Time Academy Award winner Sally Field took an apparent swipe at President Donald Trump for antagonizing Canada on a mostly apolitical night at the Emmys.
The two-time Oscar and four-time Emmy winner had just received an award for her role in “Remarkably Bright Creatures” when her thoughts turned northward.
She shouted out to cinematographer Ashley Connor, “who made the Pacific Northwest another character, and it’s Canada!”
“Blessed Canada ― our neighbors, our friends,” she said pointedly to big applause from the crowd, which included anti-Trump activist Mark Ruffalo.
The “Norma Rae” star did not mention Trump by name, but the message was clear.
The president has spent much of his second term alienating the nation’s bordering ally. He reignited a trade war, which he further aggravated by renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America in an executive order. He also has repeatedly threatened to annex Canada as the 51st state.
“We know that America is changing,” Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said. “Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms. Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario — then, now and always.”
Field, who won for Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or TV Movie, also appeared to comment on the pending merger between Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. The $110 billion deal has been stalled amid a lawsuit brought by 12 states, including entertainment centers California and New York, over fears it will hurt competition.
“I have been so grateful and so proud to be a part of this community, the arts, for 62 years or something,” Field said. “With art, we matter. Our voices matter. Our diversity, our unique storytelling matters. We can’t let those voices be silenced or compromised or merged.”

These people are so desperate
Actress: Look at me, look at me, look at me!
Average TV and movie viewer: Please go away, please go away, please go away!
The most over-rated “acting legend” ever. She’s a moron but people that go to liberal awards ceremonies “like her”. They really “like” her, because she is a moron.
It’s tough being a washed-up old bag...
> “With art, we matter. Our voices matter.” <
What a pompous statement.
But it’s actually nothing new. For some odd reason, entertainers think their profession magically gives them the right to preach to the rest of us.
“ The most over-rated “acting legend” ever.”
She’s been past her “best used by” date for many decades.
I don’t like you. I really really don’t like you, Sally!
Yep, I remember when she was on “Gidget”. Such lighthearted comedies seem like they were made in a different world....
“Shut up, Frog!”
Just another empty-headed moron.
I don’t know what to think until Mark Ruffalo makes his opinion known.
She was pretty good in ‘Remarkably Bright Creatures’. But the octopus was the star...
we wouldn’t have known the emmys were on last night except for the hoopla about them being on against monday night football ...
“Legend”
Makes you wonder what Burt (RIP) saw in her, lol.
I remember that too.
So stunning and brave.
The Flying Numb...skull
Legend? LOL.
Maybe for causing starvation in Africa from eating all the food aid.
