The women's side of the US Open nearly had an all-American final, with the semifinals featuring Aryna Sabalenka vs. American Jessica Pegula and Elena Rybakina vs. American Coco Gauff. Unfortunately for the Stars and Stripes, when Thursday night ended, neither Pegula nor Gauff had advanced, with Pegula losing in straight sets and Gauff falling in three.
One of the attendees in Arthur Ashe Stadium on Thursday night was former First Lady Michelle Obama. As dissapointing as Thursday's results may have been for the former White House resident, Obama still sent a message of support at the conclusion of the matches.
"Big hugs to @CocoGauff!!! She's a joy to watch. Always proud. Go USA Tennis!!" Obama posted on X.
As positive as Obama's message was, many fans on social media took exception to Obama not also addressing Pegula's performance, and questioned if there were racial motivations behind Obama's decision.
"Why do you only show up & root for black athletes?!? Racist much?" one fan posted on X.
"Two US women lost in the @usopen semis last night, Jess Pegula and Coco Gauff. Michelle Obama sends a message to Gauff but not Pegula? Why can't people just see players as human beings not what colour skin they are? Establishment are creating divisions not unity, wake up peeps," tennis journalist Pavvy G posted.
"Melania Trump would never congratulate and praise only the loser who happens to be the same color. You continue to be a disgrace," someone else added.

Yesterday i attended the reading of names at Ground Zero for the first time (and probably the last- there was so much sorrow)...
I was standing behind the VIP tent for the first two hours...i saw JD Vance, Rudy and a few others...as i looked down the line to my right i was watching Bruce Blakeman, GOP candidate for NY gov, pass a black woman...i looked and she had a very sour, nasty look on her face....at first i thought it was Latisha James but as i looked closer i realized it was a michelle obama...
On such a sorrowful, introspective day, she had this “I’m pissed off at the world, screw everyone” look on her face...it was really pathetic...i mean- don’t even go...

The U.S. OPEN is dead to me, will never watch it again. The women’s semifinals between Rybakina and Gauff was simply disgraceful. The crowd was literally roaring and foaming at the mouth for Gauff, the most racist crowd ever. Cameras continually panned to Michelle Obama who had a disgusting smirk on her face every time.
Rybakina beat Gauff and the stadium emptied out within minutes, in fact there was hardly anyone left for Rybakina to hit the winning balls into the crowd.
What disgusted me the most was Obama left immediately. One would think the former First Lady could wait until the winner left the court. If for nothing more than to show support for the sport, and the country she served. Michelle NEVER attends unless Coco Gauff is playing.
With all the money they’ve grifted, Big Mike still can’t be bothered to have his teeth looked after.
She was always ghetto. Even while her “husband” was in Office.
But it’s even more pathetic now. All the wealth and luxury fineries haven’t dampened down the ghetto in her, one bit.
There’s an old Southern saying that suits her to a tee:
“Trash with money, is still trash, honey.”
