Is it safe to take the train from the airport mid-day or is an UBER the better way to go? Thanks in advance.
I have never been to Chicago.

Where are you heading?
CIBC Theatre 18 W. Monroe St.
Blue line middle of the day from O’Hare to downtown is relatively safe. Goes through decent neighborhoods. It’s the south side and west side that have the crapholes. You want to get off at Monroe.
“Where are you heading¿”
Why in Chicago of all unChristly places?
1- You are going to Chicago...
2- Crime and perversion are rampant in Chicago...
3- Good luck...
If you want to be as safe as possible, take cab/uber to Union Pacific train station in Park Ridge then take that train downtown.
Train journey I’ve always wanted to take.
CHI to SF.
The amtrak? Sounds like quite an adventure!
Yes.
I spent 25 years working at my company’s plant at 93rd street near Stony island. I drove through many blocks of ghetto. I left Chicago area in 1999. But my daughter & Sil visited Chicago downtown area recently and it was safe. A transit train from O’Hare to downtown during day time should be safe since it runs through non-ghetto areas. Just avoid buses and trains going in South direction from downtown.
Most of the violence in Chicago is related to drug dealing gangs. I drove through ghetto early in the morning and after work, and never had a problem.
I did that commute from Park Ridge to downtown for 14 years. Only way to do it sanely.
The California Zephyr
Safer not to go Shitcago.
Much appreciated.
My last trip to Chicago was about 20 years ago. I’m here for the comments.
Since you’re going to be there, I highly recommend seeing the Shedd Aquarium: https://www.sheddaquarium.org/
If that’s you’re thing.
Can’t visit Chicago without seeing art: https://www.artic.edu/
My pop-in-law was from down by Cicero. He used to walk us around the old neighborhood looking for a “Dago beef sandwich”. I wouldn’t say ‘Dago’ but he did.
Tell us about your visit. I miss Chicago and I’m pretty sure I’ll keep driving around it. ;)
It will be maybe the last year of the double decker train.
I have 2 of 5 sleeper rooms in my car.
Well, The railroad decided long ago not to put Union Station in my city.
