Trump pledges $5K ‘Trump dividend’ if Republicans hold onto Congress
The Hill ^ | September 9, 2026 | Mallory Wilson

President Trump pledged a $5,000 payout to U.S. adults on Wednesday, but only if Republicans hold onto their majority in Congress come November.

“Here is my promise: if the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate, both of them … because of our tremendous strength and success economically, I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000,” he said at the GOP’s midterm convention in Dallas, Texas.

The legality of this disbursal is unclear. There are about 270 million adults in the U.S.

Trump told attendees Wednesday that the administration can disburse the proposed “Trump dividends” “because we’ve done so well and because our country is making so much money.”

He added that the payments could only be used in the U.S. but did not outline any specifics.

“We don’t want you going to Canada to spend the money,” he said. “We don’t want you going to China, to Germany.”

Trump had teased the announcement earlier in his marathon speech at the Dallas arena, saying he thought it would be “the best part of the speech.”

The president has floated ideas like this before. Last year, he promised to distribute $2,000 tariff dividend checks to Americans but was vague about specifics.

It was unclear whether Congress would have to approve such a move. Trump said he didn’t “believe” he needed congressional approval for the tariff checks, but National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett later suggested Congress would have to be involved.

No, what people need to do is stop explaining away his dementia addled insanity as just trump being trump.
Trump was just being trump on epstein island and trump is and has always been a selfish, terrible and dumb person.

Nice to see some people are starting to get a tiny sense of how this conman works. Too little, too late though.

What a liar. However, many people will believe him.

Never got any of the other checks he promised.

How about reducing the debt Trump?

I find your attitude to be insipid.

Please, tell us all : who should lead? Why should they lead (detail examples of results over time)? What should they do if elected? How can they accomplish those things?

We’re borrowing $1.5 $2.5 trillion a year and all the money is going to someone else.

At least my wife and I get $10k.

like living in the last days of the Roman Republic.

We haven't had a deficit under $1.5 trillion since the fiscal year that ended 9/30/2021.

If you want to see COVID era inflation just go back to COVID era deficits:

If we limit that to households making less than $100,000/yr, about 77 million, that drops it to $385 billion.

Spread it out over 4 years, and that’s roughly $100 billion/yr.

You’d want to add some for a phaseout for those making over $100,000/yr.

PS - Congress is responsible for the spending and the continuation of deficits.
The same Congress who refuse to pass a law to ensure safe and accurate elections.
Congress has defied and crippled Trump over and over and over again.
Yes, a Congress with a “Republican” majority.

What is your solution?

$1.35 trillion is a small price to pay to keep our budget slashing Republican Majority.

You owe me a new sarcasm meter. Mine overloaded and caught fire after that statement.

So why not 5000 now❓❓

Instead they love this:

📖📜

Exodus 22:25 “If you lend money to any of my people with you who is poor, you shall not be like a moneylender to him, and you shall not exact interest from him.

Psalm 15:5 ESV /
Who does not put out his money at interest and does not take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved.

Proverbs 28:8 ESV /
Whoever multiplies his wealth by interest and profit gathers it for him who is generous to the poor.

Deuteronomy 23:19 ESV /
“You shall not charge interest on loans to your brother, interest on money, interest on food, interest on anything that is lent for interest.

Ezekiel 22:12 ESV /
In you they take bribes to shed blood; you take interest and profit and make gain of your neighbors by extortion; but me you have forgotten, declares the Lord God.

Leviticus 25 Take no interest from him or profit, but fear your God, that your brother may live beside you”

What effin idiot this guy is. I cannot believe the collective buffoonery that enabled this dolt to get elected, but here we are.

I can’t wait for all here that voted for Trump to turn on him, just like they turned on GWB.

And no, Harris wouldn’t have been better, but wow, is this the best the GOP could come up with? That’s pretty grim.

I was thinking, wouldn’t a pinky promise do? I mean, signing something like an executive order is so formal and all that.
