I have fully bought my house but actually I rent it from the State for about $300 a month.
As others have pointed out, electronic exclusion through proprietary software is worse, and implemented already.
And then there's just when the car companies think you're stupid. My last set of BMW coils had a pictogram telling you to have some guy in a lab coat do the work.
It's not PhD level stuff. You just take off the forbidden engine cover (oh, the stars!) and it's basically a bolt-on. My car is running perfectly.

There is no oil or coolant to check It’s fully electric. Brakes prolly the same - fully electric.
Basically there is nothing under the hood that you need to touch. It uses an 800 volt battery architecture that will kill you if you do something you are not supposed to.

Take them back to the dealer. They weren’t supposed to sell you the overseas model. At least have them plug the dipstick hole.
Not true. My 2006 GMC pickup and my 2004 caddy both have.

You can still open the hood, but there is not much to see or do under the hood unless you are a tech. Repair notifications come from the apps or notifications while starting the car. There are no dip sticks in new BMW's and Mercedes.
The real goal is to make personal transportation as much of a PITA as possible that people just give up and take public transportation.

That’s precisely why they are doing it, planned obsolescence. They guarantee service revenue for dealers and then they have a captive customer base they can readily sell to again at predictable intervals. Mercedes claims it’s because of the high voltage electrical nature of the vehicles, but that’s just a convenient excuse.
I think most of the new models are doing that, including Toyota trucks. Can’t check it - and when the mechanic does it must be accessed from below and you lost a bit of fluid. Check it 2 or 3 times, losing that much fluid, and hello transmission problems.
Mechanic friend said that is one of the causes of the Ford transmissions failing once, twice, even three times with less than 100,000 miles on them. Realistically, its not common - but it is not rare anymore.
Even a lot of trucks you can’t change oil because you have pretty massive protective plates mounted with some serious hardware underneath the engine bay. It must be removed to get at the oil filter.
About the only thing easy to do now is change the plugs. That’s about like it use to be. But guarantee they’ll find away to f that up to.
Bastard American car companies are the ones that really pushed this hell we now find ourselves in.
And quality is collapsing as well due to cheaper made parts and too much technology. Loss your LED screen and your vehicle may not even start!
This will drive consumers towards the uber cheap Chinese vehicles that are about to flood our martket in a couple of years. And don’t buy what congress says. Those ccp toy cars will be allowed in. No way they can stop it.
Ford, GE probably won’t exist in another ten years. Or if they do it will be just making spare parts and electric cycles.
There is a hood release in the driver’s footwear.
On the other hand there are no serviceable parts the owner needs to routinely access.
