The Los Angeles Police Department said it is investigating after an officer fatally shot a suspect who was reportedly armed with a pole saw Monday morning.
Police responded a call about a man armed with what was believed to be a metal pipe at approximately 9:54 a.m. in the area of Gillette and Bridge Street in Boyle Heights.
Upon arrival, officers located the suspect, who was armed with what turned out to be a large tree trimmer with an approximate 12-inch serrated blade, police said.
The suspect reportedly failed to comply with orders to drop the pole and continued advancing towards officers.
He was then shot by an officer.

Unnecessary.
Once you are within the length of the pole saw it is pretty much useless....
I have no idea. I was only trained in avoiding banana attacks.
Couldn’t they have shot the pole saw out of his hands? I see them do that in the movies all the time.
Sounds like he was trying to use the pole saw as a glaive, a medieval polearm.
He didn’t hate all cops but he was certainly after the Boyle Heights branch.
This is the packaged excuse for killing people intent on destroying a Flock camera.
Bad PR for the cops leading to non-cooperation and eventually cop deaths and
Flock-vigilante deaths.
Flock gotta go. Even if it goes to the Supreme Court.
My driving is distracted bc I’m looking for these mf’s.
Good shoot...IMHO
LOL! I’m sure Bass Turd’s LAPD will conduct a thorough and objective investigation.
First thing you were taught: don't slip. π
Nah, it was a Mexican Naginata.

Now it’s escalated to drop the pole saw.

Why not shoot it out of his hands? Joe uses a 12 gage for that. π΅
Should I keep my tree trimmer under lock and key now?
I believe it would be the type of saw I’ve tried to cut dead palm fronds with.
Pretty damn worthless.
The palm tree-trimming professionals use Stihl chain saw type devices that work rather well.
I hate climbing ladders leaning against palm trees.
My neighbor who trims trees for a living straps the top of his ladder to the palm tree.
Man, that could have been me. I mean I have been using one on my farm for years. Of course, I also have a manual extendable tree lopper that makes my wife smile. I don’t use any of the equipment near law enforcement though. I don’t think that the county law enforcement here in Oklahoma shoots tree trimming farmers, but why take the chance?
