Donald Trump revealed a potential uniform for the US Space Force that has people comparing the service's new look to classic science fiction movies.
The newest wing of the American military has been mocked in the past for the futuristic nature of their uniforms.
However, many were taken aback when Trump posted a new 'Service Dress Uniform' for the force titled 'Next Generation' which directly references the 1997 film Starship Troopers.
The design is inspired, according to the photo description, 'by the discipline and functionality of the starship trooper uniform modernized for the guardians of the space domain.'
The color palette used for the uniforms includes 'space gray,' 'midnight black,' 'silver gray' and 'satin black.'
Trump gave no explanation for the new uniforms.
Many were confused by the post and the concept behind the uniforms, comparing them to the villains of various space films.
'I see we’re going for the galactic empire look,' wrote one, referencing the imperial officers' uniforms in the Star Wars films.

Indeed! Did it in all capital letters!
That’s a Babylon 5 style uniform.
Not a good look.
From what I recall, the director and/or producer never read the book and at least one of them was proud of that. The movie director also wanted to lampoon Heinlein's vision of a militarized but united Earth. He could have done that by combining more meaningful themes from Haldeman's "The Forever War" which was written explicitly as a response to "Starship Troopers." (Notably, Haldeman also praised "Starship Troopers," he just disagreed with it after his experiences in Vietnam. That would have been an amazing and powerful movie.
Instead, Hollywood gave us an angsty 8th grader's "my teacher told me to think that war and soldiers and pride and discipline is bad so let's make fun of it when people die."
My first impression as well. Disgusting
Marco sitting on the sofa has become a thing.
They do seem like something the Luftwaffe might wear if they were still in business. Say what you will, Germans were well dressed in WW II. Its a uniform that might look good in Black.
I’d call that late fifties or thereabouts.
😂
For all the talk of Trump trolling the libs, he might have gotten trolled himself with these designs. There are a lot of fake ones floating around on the internet.
I guess the Navy and Air Force already have shades of blue, but you want to stay away from black.
Star Wars uniforms are said to be based on German uniforms, but the Japanese touches really stand out.
Starship Troppers 1997, Firefly 2002.
Never mind, I see you beat me to it. 8~)
Could be worse. Could be pink with a rainbow themed pussy hat.
That’s the officers...what about the enlisted ranks>?
Spit shining was a pain in any division.
I don’t like the looks of them, they remind me too much of certain “bad guys”. If I were younger, I thought of joining the Space Force, but not with those uniforms.
