Aryna Sabalenka finally found something that could stop her at the US Open: the smell of marijuana.

The two-time defending champion complained to the chair umpire that it was bothering her early in her third-round victory over Kamilla Rakhimova on Friday. Sabalenka said she had never smelled the odor so strong as she did while serving early in the match.

"I don't know if it was, like, coming from the crowd or was from the outside because the wind blows it into the stadium," Sabalenka said. "I don't know. I just hope they're going to be a bit more aware of that stuff." Sabalenka was serving in the third game of the match in Louis Armstrong Stadium. She tossed the ball but then let it fall to the court. She did the same thing on the next point, with something clearly bothering her.

Thousands of arena-playing rock musicians would tell her:

Suck it up, Buttercup. Literally.

“ I’d probably need to smoke dope if I lived in NYC”

There is that

Apparently the guy didn’t get asked to leave. Swift kick from a companion dope slap from his wife

Too bad cigarettes are unlawful.

Yes.

"I don't know. I just hope they're going to be a bit more aware of that stuff."

No question.

Laura Ingraham has complained more than once that she hates the overpowering amount of marijuana smoke as she walks anywhere in NYC.

With the low quality of votes by New Yorkers I wonder if someone finally did the old hippie trick of adding LSD to the city’s drinking water. Someone said back then the chlorination process would extinguish the drug’s potency.

That stink is everywhere in cities now. There is no getting away from it. Amazing the libs who lobby for free access to reefer are the same ones who cracked down on tobacco because of the smell.

Almost as if they want a vote base of stoned idiots.

I don’t know about Louis Armstrong Stadium, but walk down any street in Manhattan or Brooklyn, and the smell of weed is constant.

I’m in Crawfordville, Florida. We have constant fresh air from The Gulf of America that blows across the town. Yet I smell marihuana in practically every parking lot.

Weird observation. Everyone knows that Walmart parking lots are under observation. I saw a drug deal take place next to where my truck was parked. It was the kind where the merchandise is sampled to be sure of the quality. The two young black men left instantly as I rounded the rear of my truck, so I probably got there just as they were concluding. My guess is that they felt being under the cameras made them safer from each other.

Had to look it up. Here’s what the search engine sayeth.

“Marijuana is legal in Florida only for medical use with a state-issued medical marijuana card; recreational marijuana remains illegal and possession of non‑medical cannabis can lead to criminal penalties.”

Having said that, the apparent use, as detected by my nose, is rampant. I’m guessing that there’s no enforcement. Having spoken to a cop about “funding” he said, in essence, “We try really hard not to arrest anyone as our primary job is revenue. Arrest somebody and say goodbye to the remainder of your day.”
