Vance says he won’t turn on ‘friend’ Carlson over Trump, Rogers criticism

Vice President Vance defended his relationship with right-wing media personality Tucker Carlson during Thursday’s White House press briefing, saying he won’t allow political disagreements to ruin friendships.

Carlson this past week has said President Trump should be removed from office for “actively considering” preemptive nuclear strikes, while also saying he wouldn’t vote for former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.), the GOP candidate in Michigan’s Senate race, “at gunpoint.”

“Everybody knows that Tucker Carlson and I are friends, and I think it’s very obvious that Tucker has said some things that I disagree with,” Vance said when asked Thursday about people who are uneasy about his relationship with the former Fox News host.

“He said some things about the president of the United States that I think are just wrong,” he added.

The vice president also said he disagreed with Carlson’s apparent support of Abdul El-Sayed, Rogers’s Democratic opponent in the Wolverine State.

“I’d like to have a non-crazy person like Mike Rogers representing Michigan in the United States Senate, rather than a crazy person like El-Sayed,” Vance said during the White House press briefing.

However, he went on to say that he tries not to let political disagreements define his friendships.

“Tucker is a friend of mine,” the vice president continued. “Tucker is a friend, despite the fact that we disagree on a number of things. And I’m not going to play the game where I throw friends under the bus because I have political disagreements with them.”

“I think that is a terrible place for the United States to go,” he added.

Carlson described El-Sayed’s campaign as “Trumpian” during a podcast episode released Wednesday.

The right-wing pundit has long been a major booster of Trump but has been increasingly critical of him since the Iran war started early this year. Both Carlson and Vance have promoted an isolationist, anti-war worldview distinct from more traditional Republican hawkishness.

While Vance has not been publicly critical of the war, he has reportedly been the most skeptical member of Trump’s Cabinet throughout the conflict.

Carlson pointed to the president’s threat of the “total destruction” of Iran in his comments calling for his removal.

“The second any president actively considers first-use of nuclear weapons, that person should be removed from office immediately. Immediately, because that’s gotta be the red line, destroying all of humanity with a nuclear strike,” Carlson said.

“Why isn’t there an attempt to remove him from office, like, immediately?” he added.

That's fine, but it pretty much kills any chance you ever had to become President.

Tucker has lost his marbles and people on our side are starting to take an intensive dislike to him.

My choice has always been Marco Rubio. I have wondered about Vance’s abilities to sort through complex issues, and he doesn’t seem to have a grasp on Foreign issues. So for me, I couldn’t care less if he has a man crush on Tucker Carlson or not.

if Carlson goes down the tubes any further.

Is it even possible for Tucker to go "further down the tubes"?

I don’t trust Vance’s politics at all. I’d probably hold my nose and vote for him if he was the nominee in 2028, but he’d be my last choice of prospective nominees.

Mark this date down. September 3, 2026.

The day Vance’s future political career ended.

That’s fine. You can be friends, disagree, and just don’t really have anything to do with them. You don’t have to be a Trump and call names, vilify, hate a person.

He can’t denounce our version of hasan piker? The new david duke? No of course not because he’s nuanced, backed by Thiel, written a book and already annointed. Well, excuse me for being a hatey-hate-hater but he’s already lost my vote. Oh and go Israel!

“...but I think Vance is digging his own political grave if he thinks he can straddle the gulf between MAGA and the Carlson-Rogan-Owens fringe.”

I know nothing of the other two, but, Carlson, yes.

If Vance thinks he has to make a statement, he need only say that he will talk with Carlson.

If I were Trump, I would be leery of Vance now.

Carlson must have rotted his brain with overuse of nicotine.

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. I would not give my back to Carlson and company.

That is a mistake on VAnce’s part. Tucker Carlson has no place anywhere near conservatism. He’s a Duginite. Nothing about any of the ideas he’s been expressing since leaving Fox is conservative. You can’t be anti-Semitic and a conservative. You can’t be pro-Islamist and be a conservative. You can’t support El-Sayed against Rogers and be a conservative, not that Rogers is anything to write home about.

Carlson has accused the U.S. of waging war on Russia because Putin is “reimposing Christianity” there. Putin, meanwhile, just gave his full support to Iran, which pledges to destroy the U.S.!

Tucker hates Jews so much that he backs America’s enemies because he fantasizes that the Jews somehow control the U.S. He spent most of a recent show alternately complaining that you’re not allowed to criticize Israel and attacking Israel.

Tucker isn’t America First. I’d argue he’s America Last.

Vance’s so-called “post-liberalism” is not conservative.

“Everybody knows that Tucker Carlson and I are friends"

The question is: WHY?

If I had a friend who became a supporter of anti-American candidates paid for by the Muslim Brotherhood, he would now be a FORMER friend.

Antagonism between groups and individuals has been orchestrated by America’s enemies

It is equally as likely that some people don't like you because you are a prick.

And low IQ too, McGoo.

1) Not sure if Trump is going to like this. 2) Vance doesn’t want to lose millions of Carlson supporters. 3) Not sure if he’s going to be able to thread that needle, even if he would like to.

Vance may be many things (smart, ambitious, self-confident, etc), but I would not use ‘wise’ as a word to describe him.

Good point and very valid concern.
