‘Morning Joe’: Rahm Emanuel Insists Democratic Party Is ‘Not Open’ to Socialist Takeover
The Wrap via Yahoo ^ | 8/31/26 | Alex Welch

Former White House Chief of Staff and former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel told the hosts of MS NOW's "Morning Joe" on Monday that the Democratic Party is "not open" to a takeover by self-identifying socialist candidates.

"There is a pragmatic and a progressive wing of the party," Emanuel said. "We both believe that the system is rigged against families that live paycheck-to-paycheck and try to make ends meet and who work hard, trying to raise their kids to know right from wrong and do the hard work. That's where the party's soul is."

"Some believe in Medicare For All," he continued. "I believe in early retirees buying into Medicare. That's a healthy debate we should have and then present a plan to the country on how to return health care to being a peace of mind, not the nightmare that it is today."

The career politician and former Illinois congressman was asked how he feels about the growing divide within the Democratic Party between the party's traditional Democrats and some of its rising-star Democratic Socialist candidates, including New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Michigan Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed. Emanuel, in response, said the policies of the latter do not perform well in mainstream elections.

"Four weeks ago, the Democratic Socialists had a party convention in Chicago," he noted. "They're a separate party. They're not a caucus or a wing of the [Democratic Party]. They're a separate party. We're not open to being taken over. You think people want defunding the police, open borders, opening up the prison doors? I'll see you in November. If you think people are going to buy this Purina dog chow, great."

Rahm wants Brandon's old spot in a few years. He's one of the dinosaurs about to be run over by the DNC's Hamas wing. Rahm/Hunter 2028? Oh, my.

Its MSNow, so I know he wasn't challenged with the follow up: "Then why are they running in Democrat primaries and presenting themselves as Democrats?"

That would only be true if the Democrats didn’t allow them into their tent. However, since they did, it’s only a matter of time because the Old Guard is dying off and getting tired and the New Guard is enthusiastic and they are looking to replace the old guard asap.

Democrats have been socialists for the past several decades, they’re moving to full blown communism now. Who do they think they are fooling?

It's a 'nightmare' because of government subsidies and mandates.

Let people buy the healthcare they want, and the healthcare they can afford. There is no 'right' to indebt others for your healthcare, but that's the 'nightmare' we have today where most healthcare spending is allocated and directed by government bureaucrats.

Meanwhile, healthcare services not mandated or subsidized by government we see the price actually falls, as one would naturally expect from increasing productivity.

The inflation-adjusted price of LASIK surgery has decreased by roughly 30% from 2001 to 2026.

While general medical costs in the United States have skyrocketed—with overall medical care prices inflating by 117% over the same period—LASIK has defied the healthcare trend, becoming significantly cheaper in "real" dollars due to technology scaling, free-market competition, and the absence of insurance distortions

Cantillion Effect. Those closest to the source get the greatest benefit. Only 26% of benefits actually reach those who really need it. Cut out the middle man.

Believe Rahm?

What this story tells me is the "socialist takeover" has been completed, even if some of the old people have not been purged.

"I believe in early retirees buying into Medicare.

Wait, wait! In the previous paragraph he said Democrats live paycheck to paycheck. How would they be able to buy into early Medicare?

The Democrat answer would be to make the buy-in cost $0.00 and let the Republicans pay for it.

I'd say this one is a particularly big whopper.

Rahm Emanuel: Knife Fighter, A Look Back

The best Rahm Emanuel story is not the one about the decomposing two-and-a-half-foot fish he sent to a pollster who displeased him. It is not about the time - the many times - that he hung up on political contributors in a Chicago mayor's race, saying he was embarrassed to accept their $5,000 checks because they were $25,000 kind of guys. No, the definitive Rahm Emanuel story takes place in Little Rock, Ark., in the heady days after Bill Clinton was first elected President.

It was there that Emanuel, then Clinton's chief fund-raiser, repaired with George Stephanopoulos, Mandy Grunwald and other aides to Doe's, the campaign hangout. Revenge was heavy in the air as the group discussed the enemies - Democrats, Republicans, members of the press - who wronged them during the 1992 campaign. Clifford Jackson, the ex-friend of the President and peddler of the Clinton draft-dodging stories, was high on the list. So was William Donald Schaefer, then the Governor of Maryland and a Democrat who endorsed George Bush. Nathan Landow, the fund-raiser who backed the candidacy of Paul Tsongas, made it, too.

Suddenly Emanuel grabbed his steak knife and, as those who were there remeber it, shouted out the name of another enemy, lifted the knife, then brought it down with full force into the table.

''Dead!'' he screamed.

The group immediately joined in the cathartic release: ''Nat Landow! Dead! Cliff Jackson! Dead! Bill Schaefer! Dead!''
