DeSantis: All Flock cameras on Florida highways will be removed

DeSantis does it again.

On Monday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis did something no other governor has done. He tore down all the Flock cameras on the highways.

[DeSantis] told interviewer Eric Bolling that state agencies would take down the units they control and that 'we're going to clear the state right-of-ways.' The governor estimated that the large majority of Florida's roughly 7,500 license-plate readers sit on local rather than state roads.

The memo applies only to devices in the right-of-way of the State Highway System. It does not cover cameras on county or city roads, private property or other types of mobile license-plate readers used by agencies such as the Florida Highway Patrol for law enforcement purposes ...

FDOT's memo frames the change as necessary 'to preserve Floridians' sovereignty and quality of life.' Local agencies that currently have permitted readers on state roads now have until late September to take them down.

World's best governor strikes again!

Here in NY, Hochul will probably take them down in the “hood” neighborhoods...just like they did with the Red light cameras.

The idea of the 4th Amendment does not insure individual privacy in public places, look at the cameras in shopping malls, casinos, grocery stores etc.

A privately owned camera at a casino or grocery isn't logging your movements across town and making them accessible to government agents.

Carpenter v. United States

https://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/585/16-402/

A person does not surrender all Fourth Amendment protection by venturing into the public sphere. To the contrary, “what [one] seeks to preserve as private, even in an area accessible to the public, may be constitutionally protected.” A majority of this Court has already recognized that individuals have a reasonable expectation of privacy in the whole of their physical movements.

I live in the country, and my nearest neighbor is a mile away. But if I DID have a neighbor that thought it was necessary to keep a camera trained on my residence, I’d probably put a stop to it by mowing the yard naked.

"Having now watched DeSantis govern for 7+ years, the one thing that I know is that what he is doing is right, he has a plan and he will execute on it competently. "

Yep. Competence matters. It isn't woke or gay to be competent

My suggestion to you is exercise your right to protest and refuse to go to Florida every chance you get. 👍

it is not so much the cameras ... they are everywhere as you said. The big issue is the searchable database that connects everything together as we move around.

one is interested in me and if they are so f****** what?

There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws.

Give the government time and they will be interested in you.

Flock cams are the shiny keys here, the attention getter, but there are already tens of thousands (millions?) of surveillance cameras in this country alone.

“Flock isn’t a traffic-camera network.

It’s the infrastructure for a police state waiting for somebody ambitious enough to use it like one.”

The dismantling of flock cameras brings a smile to every criminal’s face, along with every scofflaw speeder and traffic violator.

“Can there be abuse with these cameras”

Of course there can be a certain amount of following in a flock camera. But he is not removing flock cameras from Florida. Just from the one interestate as there are still thousands of people already looking through other cameras. Why waste the money.

It’s like the old west. He’s not saying you can’t own a gun. It’s not saying you can’t carry a gun. You just can’t carry one in the town limits. So everywhere else in the state is legal for flock cameras. And tacking down all the flock cameras is just like guns. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.

hey... we’re not talking about law abiding citizens getting the freedoms takin away. we are past that in this country, be it an out of control government or a complacent society. no matter how you paint it, we are at a state where we have enemies inside the perimeter!!

There are a shit ton of animals on our streets, terroists bringing in Sharia and homos eyeing our kids and grand kids.

I’ll be damned if I let others pressure me into believing as they do! The time to have done something about it is long gone!! I was waiting, praying and hoping for the balloon to go up after Waco. But nothing!! And I wasnt stupid enough to go on a rampage without a big enough number behind me!!

You stand your chest out now and cry for your freedoms... I just hope no one you personally know gets takin out, and the culprit isnt caught because the neighborhood cameras were taking out because of people like you! that would be a helluva karma wouldnt it!!??

everytime I go to florida I get a lame ass bill in the mail months later showing my vehicle speeding... failure to pay a toll... turning on red!! smh... They get me EVERY TIME!! but you know what!?? I’m guilty of it!! And I’ll pay my dues!! I feel better about that than I would if some child got kidnapped and raped because there was no cameras.

As stated in another post, we are way past the stage of not having the animals on our streets watched day and night. We should have takin care of the problem years ago. but we didnt.... we held hands and sung Kumbaya...
