DeSantis does it again.
On Monday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis did something no other governor has done. He tore down all the Flock cameras on the highways.
[DeSantis] told interviewer Eric Bolling that state agencies would take down the units they control and that 'we're going to clear the state right-of-ways.' The governor estimated that the large majority of Florida's roughly 7,500 license-plate readers sit on local rather than state roads.
The memo applies only to devices in the right-of-way of the State Highway System. It does not cover cameras on county or city roads, private property or other types of mobile license-plate readers used by agencies such as the Florida Highway Patrol for law enforcement purposes ...
FDOT's memo frames the change as necessary 'to preserve Floridians' sovereignty and quality of life.' Local agencies that currently have permitted readers on state roads now have until late September to take them down.

The sheriff in my city in North Florida has already announced the 141 flock cams in our county are coming down pretty much immediately.
I suspect other Florida counties will follow suit.
Yeah that’s how Governor DeSantis got to where he is in life, being “beyond Stupid”. SMH

Governor DeSantis reminds Florida residents that criminals have exactly the same rights as law abiding citizens!
Grocery stores, shopping malls and casinos are not public places. They are all private property.
And says to hell with posturing and making a Broadway musical about everything he 'plans' to do, the way most politicians do.
He doesn't fly around FL having rallies to brag about all he has done and all he needs to do and all he wants to do but can't because so-and-so is preventing him and whine about what the other side has done. (Does this remind you of someone?)
And when people bitch (not many do) he just says, "Shut up."
That is a POTUS for you.
Vance is a nice enough guy but he is picking up some VERY bad habits from his boss. The office of POTUS is one where you don't have to tell anyone anything, except "From time to time..." as the Constitution requires.
De Santis does not have this character pathology.
Not having read the whole piece, in true Free Republic fashion lol, I’m assuming that local roads and localities would require legislation from Tallahassee to force them to remove them. If in fact that is the goal

Kudos to DeSantis for his “get the flock outta my state” policy on these intrusive devices. We all know exactly where this leads to under the ‘usual suspects’ that will abuse the intel these cameras provide, once they get back into the WH. Hell, it’s already being abused by the Barney Fife types out there. Heading that future abuse off at the pass is an excellent, forward-thinking move on his part. Let’s hope that other governors and leaders follow suit.

Seems that way. If they gave a damn about privacy, they would at least support the SAME PROTECTIONS that we have with Cell Phone data...but instead they keep repeating the same, totally discredited, trope that it’s the same as cell phones.

They're not just tracking criminals, they're tracking EVERYBODY, and...storing the data. It won't stop with just license plates either. If you believe they are tracking only criminals you are sorely mistaken.
This is a good start, but FLOCK is one brand of surveillance cameras being installed everywhere. Get rid of FLOCK, and another will take its place. Outlaw all government surveillance cameras, period!
As I understand it these things are somehow connected to state DMVs.
If they’re gonna use these, access needs to be STRICTLY controlled....and right now it’s not.
Good. Now remove all the Axon cameras, and don't install any other persistent, omnipresent surveillance system.

this is absolute stupidity... we will see very shortly a spike in crime due to this. if the afro’s know they are taking camera’s out, whoever does it, deserves their new fate...
The surveillance state crowd seems to like recycling the arguments of the gun-control crowd.
It's interesting that both the gun-control crowd and the surveillance state crowd act to increase the scope and power of The State ... against We the People.
