President Donald Trump went to bat for data centers on Monday morning, arguing that communities opposing the warehouses powering artificial intelligence will “end up being backwards and poor.”
Data centers have become an increasingly contentious and toxic issue for many Republicans on the campaign trail, especially in key swing states like Ohio and Michigan.
“The only reason that communities throughout the U.S.A. should not want Data Centers is if they want to end up being backwards and poor. If they want to be successful and rich, with far lower taxes and jobs all over the place, let Data Reign,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, adding:
The good news is that there are plenty of other places that want them. If we kill the Golden Goose, you will only have yourselves to blame. China could not be happier with this anti Data Center movement. Actually, they can’t believe it is happening! President DJT
In mid-August, Axios obtained a memo from National Republican Senatorial Committee warning that Democrats are making data centers the “centerpiece” of their campaign to unseat Sen. Jon Husted (R-OH).
“If he loses and data centers get the blame, politicians across the country will take notice — and they will not go near the next one. This has become a sleeper issue for the entire election cycle,” read the memo.
Trump, however, appears unconcerned by the popular backlash against data centers, which focuses on the environmental damage and energy use the massive facilities are linked to.
In July, Trump slammed New York’s governor for placing a moratorium on data centers to allow lawmakers time to study their impact on communities and rising energy prices.
“One of the biggest Driving Forces in the Future for Jobs, are Data Centers. They are big, strong, bold, and Money Machines for the State in which they are built. Governor Kathy Hochul, for political reasons, has terminated all Data Centers being built, or to be built, in New York State,” Trump wrote at the time, adding:
These Companies are now being sought in Alabama, Florida, Texas, Arizona, and many other States. Both the Taxes and the Jobs amount to LIQUID GOLD! New York State has made a terrible decision. All of this Income, and other Benefits, will be going to Red States, and some Blue, where Data Centers are sought as Cash Cows, with Lower Taxes and Record Setting Jobs. They must pay for their own Water and Power, and any leftover goes back to the State and local Community. Data Centers are tremendous WINS for the States and Communities that are lucky enough to get them. New York should change its Policy, IMMEDIATELY. The Radical Left Dumocrats must not be allowed to cause us to lose Data Centers, AI, and all of this incredible new Technology, to China, and other countries!

Lefties want big payoffs before they’ll let these proceed.
Data centers are not evil entities.
It is just normal growth and ‘economies of scale’
the poison is the combination of ignorance and foreign propaganda
They use a lot of electricity and water. They make a lot of noise. IMO these things can all be resolved. And remember...Red China's leaders doesn't give a rat's hindquarters about power and water for their citizens,or about noise.
Built correctly, they are no problem.
Built like shit, they are.
Trump should appreciate that.
It’s the ones built like shit that have caused the complaints and thanks to those, it’s tainted the whole ball of wax.
Server-farms
The country is only half occupied . There are plenty of places to put these buildings if no one really wants any of them near them.
“end up being backwards and poor.”
I wonder if POTUS knows that’s just plain stupid.
“AI is happening and will continue to happen. It will not be stopped. The only unanswered question is...who will win the race, the US or Red China? “
That is correct. However it does not make 5,000 datacenters necessary.
Each of the major hyperscalers (MS, AMZN, GooGL ETC.) is building enough capacity to win this race. We are overbuilding.
AI + Flocking + Zones =

Not just the “stupid vote” but the. getting free stuff vote, which are almost all dem. Recently I have seen many ads featuring elderly people talking about how important it is that they keep their Social Security because they earned it and need it. So far that’s all they say but I think closer to the election they’re going to start saying that Republicans want to take away your Social Security. Democrats have campaigned on this lie for decades.
Distance from population is part of the trade off. The further away it is from people connecting to it, the greater the latency.
If we didn’t allow railroads to use steam locomotives, think how many jobs we would have saved for horses.
If we didn’t allow the B&O RR to build bridges across the Ohio River, think how many jobs we would have saved for baggage handlers and ferry operators?
If we didn’t build out the interstate and US highway systems, just think how many railroad jobs we’d still have?
Only if the GOP continues to sit on its fat butt and lets the CCP-paid tools protest about these centers.
What I understand about situation. America needs data centers within its boards. Needs data centers which can be secured from foreign interference. Our military relies on AI and this is a national security issue.
Do we have any shuttered military bases that may be a viable candidate for a days center?
Who has the most to lose if we build data centers? Who has the most to gain if we don’t build data center? Answer to both is the same; China.
Data Centers are fine— purchase available properties to build them, preferably in the ugly cities that will benefit most from them. Using eminent domain to take private rural property for them IS NOT OKAY.
