It was a long time second-coming.
After years of searching, Italian archaeologists have discovered an ancient site that matches a Bible description of where Jesus Christ was buried, per a preliminary study in the Jerusalem archaeological journal Liber Annuus.
“We have found evidence of a funerary landscape,” lead archaeologist Francesca Romana Stasolla, of the “La Sapienza” University of Rome, told the Daily Mail as part of an exclusive article.
The researchers had been excavating Jerusalem’s Church of the Holy Sepulchre, a fourth century Roman Church that was built over a holy site where many Christians believe Christ was crucified, buried and then resurrected on Easter Sunday.
As a result, it’s become a mecca for religious pilgrims from across the world, attracting around four million visitors per year.
During the final phases of the excavations in 2025 — they began three years prior during a floor restoration — the team found a peculiar landscape that suggests they might’ve been onto something.
Underneath the church was an abandoned quarry, cultivated plots of land, rock-cut tombs and an ancient garden. Coincidentally, the Book of John describes: “At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid.”
While no one had been found in the tomb, the abundance of parallels was nonetheless compelling.
John 19:20 says that the crucifixion occurred close to Jerusalem, while Hebrews 13:12 claims that it occurred outside the city gate — the exact location of the quarry at the time of Christ.

I had to stop reading when it said the church of the Sepulchre had become a Mecca for Christian tourists.

well, who is making the money this time around? Religion finds are always worth a few bucks...
IIRC, the first Christian Roman emperor, Constantine’s mother converted to Christianity and travelled to Jerusalem to see where all the things happened that were related in the gospels.
She inquired about the place of the Crucifixion and Christ’s tomb and was led to the place where she established the now famous Church of the Holy Sepulchre.............IIRC.........
The “true tomb” has been found more often than the frequently found Noah’s arc. If you believe all the stories in the tabloids over the years, of course.

Hey, everybody! Look! We found Christ tomb right where they said it was! Who knew? After 2000 years, a tomb hewn out of the rock is still there.

Been there. Not the most beautiful church in the world but the most revered. No question. What surprised me was at one end you have the tomb-holy sepulchre and at the other end the supposed site of the crucifixion at the other. The Bible says they were nearby to each other so you get two for one holy sites in that one church.

How exciting is this, eh? Having worked twice in Israel, and having seen two -- step right up! -- tombs, now tourists and residents alike can choose between three! Heady stuff, eh?
It is interesting that the NY Post re-reports the Daily Mail, and the Daily Mail is "M+Exclusive" paywalled.
Meanwhile, the supposed original article, "Francesca Romana Stasolla et alii -- Archaeological excavations in the Holy Sepulchre, Jerusalem: 2025 preliminary report (pp. 619-716)," isn't nearly so exciting, nor definitive.
Tombs were reusable. After a while bones are transferred to a small box and buried.
