An Atlanta woman who participated in a scheme that defrauded Amazon out of nearly $10 million was sentenced to over 16 years in federal prison on Wednesday, the Justice Department announced.
The US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia said in a release that Brittany Hudson was sentenced to 16 years and three months in federal prison after she and her partner used a business relationship with Amazon to defraud the e-commerce giant.
Hudson was convicted in March of 30 felony offenses that involved wire fraud, money laundering, related conspiracy charges and a count related to the forgery of a federal judge’s signature.
“Hudson and her partner engineered a massive fraud scheme against Amazon, stealing nearly $10 million in just a few months,” said US Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg.
“Hudson then showed utter contempt for the law by forging a federal judge’s signature in a failed effort to defraud another company while out on bond. Today’s significant sentence, which must be served without the possibility of parole, holds her accountable for her crime spree.”
From January 2022 to June 2022, Hudson and her partner, Kayricka Wortham, defrauded Amazon using a scheme that involved bogus vendors and invoices that they created in Amazon’s vendor system, according to the DOJ announcement.
Wortham and another co-conspirator at Amazon approved the fake vendor profiles, which allowed them to submit invoices.
Hudson and Wortham then submitted over 1,000 fictitious invoices, falsely claiming the phony vendors had provided goods and services to Amazon. Wortham would approve the invoices, which led to Amazon transferring about $9.4 million to bank accounts that she, Hudson and their co-conspirators controlled.

If someone gives her money for whatever reason, it becomes her money. You could say the same thing about a Trust Fund Baby.
Let’s say it is a guy who’s wearing bling, and shows all the indicators of someone who sells illegal narcotics or is pimping girls. Black or white. You gonna check on him? If you sell firearms, that’s kind of automatic, though that doesn’t check for source of money. Where do you draw the line? The furniture store? The spa? The Wendy’s?
If you own the business, do what you want (risking a discrimination suit), but in a sense, it really isn’t your problem.
There were some holier than thou types who tried to pressure Mother Teresa in returning donations received from Charles Keating. The money was long gone, and it really wasn’t her problem. The Missionaries run a lean operation, and it would be less lean if they had to add a layer of bureaucracy to check where the money was coming from.
Her partner in crime was Kayricka Wortham, which should give you pause.
She shoulda just killed someone. Would have gotten less time.
Just no honor among thieves these days.
I always thought Mother Teresa’s charity, like so many, became a multi billion dollar operation well removed from her original intent.
Arch-atheist Christopher Hitchens spent years attacking her.
There was a 1991 Report that claimed there was no evidence that more than 7% goes to the needy.
The problem with the 1991 report (assuming it was on the up and up) was that it was using United Way style auditing for an operation that isn’t designed for it.
When the nuns hang around forlorn in an airport waiting for someone to gift them a flight, there is no accountant to take care of that real donation.
When locals paid to provide materials in India to build a health center in India, you do not get a laser printed bill of lading, or a Quickbooks formatted spreadsheet in the e-mail.
Another thing you do not see, is any of the people doing the work living luxurious lifestyles. So, at worst, they might be incompetent or swindled, but they are not thieves.

Back as a teen I got indoctrinated by evangelicals. But my Catholic parents asked me about Mother Theresa as an example of Christ’s love for the sick & the poor. I didn’t have an answer for it. Years later I went back to the Catholic Church. It may have it’s problems, but the followers take care of the down trodden. IMHO.
When DH worked for a DOD contractor, he caught a co-worker doing something very similar and turned him in to the FBI. He had to testify in Federal Court.
The guy went to prison, but I can’t recall for how long. That was in the mid-’90s.
