Now departon from Nashville!

Dolly Parton lovers are demanding Nashville International Airport be renamed after the country music queen following her death — with a year-old petition gaining thousands of signatures in mere hours as the likes of Sheryl Crow threw their weight behind it.

The Change.org petition — “Rename Nashville International Airport to Dolly Parton International Airport” — blasted past 100,000 signatures Wednesday, gaining more than 50,000 in the day since the Tennessee native died at 80 on Tuesday.

“On August 25, the world lost an angel,” an update to the petition read. “It’s difficult to imagine a world without our Dreamer-In-Chief. How are we going to be okay without her magic to keep us safe? How can we shine without her light?”

“Since her passing, tens of thousands of additional supporters have visited and signed this petition,” it added. “The outpouring of support has reinvigorated our mission.”

Parton was born east of Knoxville but became a music superstar in Nashville and lived there for much of her life, with the petition evoking her deep Tennessee roots when it was started in Jan. 2025.

It sat at around 53,000 signatures before her death, garnering only a few thousand new signatures over the year and a half since it was created.

Flying into Dolly. Very soft landing. I can see it. Probably could've done it 25 years ago, but that's okay.

I never cared for Dolly’s music. I loathed her friend Jane. But, I always liked the “charitable” Dolly.

This is such a ridiculously easy no-brainer that it just needs to happen.

I don’t think there is anyone in the country more universally beloved.

What’s more? Dolly had a great sense of humor - and I think she’d chuckle if they also changed the airport code to ‘DDD’!

I’m way too cranky to live up to it, but I think one of the greatest quotes I ever heard came from her: If you meet someone without a smile, give ‘em one of yours.

Such a treasure and such a great person - even beyond her talents (which were enormous).

I’ll support naming almost anything after her. Such a quintessential American.

Dolly was never a “go to” musician for me, but, I have to say, this is outstanding:

Wow.

I always thought she was a caricature, and a very successful one. the radio keeps asking who else is like her, and no one has an answer.

but maybe Amanda Palmer in a very strange way that no one else will understand

Yeah, the Trio recordings are all amazing.

Trio Documentary

I found this video back during the pandemic and bookmarked it. Some of the included video clips are like peeking into a 1960s - 70s time capsule. It's a nice presentation of how the collaboration recordings came to be.

Look people, I liked her as much as the next person—but, calling for her her to lie in state in Washington, DC, naming the airport after a singular person in a town famous for country music...people are going nuts with this.
Really “Grand Ol’ Airport” might be better...

Nothing in the public sector should be named after anyone who hasn’t been dead 100 years.

FYI, Construction on the Washington Monument began less than 50 years after George Washington died.

I think she might get a kick if they renamed it, “The Dolly Parton/Mae West Airport”.

Her sense of humor was great.

She knew her audience.
She didn’t try to be everything to everyone.
She was a great entertainer.

Airport renamed? sure, why not.

No. BNA is Berry Field. None of this pop culture. Memphis is now the Fred Smith Airport for FedEx.

would be funny if the rename also included two new large radar domes built next to each other...
