Ants under a firehose.

There is no way anyone in the videos survived.

The wall of water was at least 80 feet high above them. And not just water but rocks and logs and parts of buildings and cars.

In one video, people were running next to a double decked bus stop. Before the water obscured the view, not only were 20-30 buses being swept away but the upper deck as well.

I can’t imagine there were less than 1000 casualties, just in two short videos.

I agree that people who video with their phones instead of helping victims are bad.

But I strongly suspect these videos were fixed CC cameras, not people with phones.

Even if they were people with phones, there was no way they could help the victims.

Terrible tragedies there.

Can you post this as a URL. When I click the link line in the description I get a page saying this site cannot be reached. Copying a URL into a Google page will probably work. Thanks

Lord, please have mercy and strengthen their surviving families, and may each soul find redemption through our most merciful Lord Jesus Christ.

I saw some other videos of people climbing up a path up the steep hill and videoing below them as they went. Terrible to see those that weren’t fast enough get swept away, and the cries of anguish from those higher up on the hill.

Early reports think it might have been an earthquake high up that dislodged glacial ice and snow. In the Seattle area there are similar geologic deposits from lahars that are 30+ feet thick in now developed subdivisions. Volcanic activity heats up the glaciers on Mt. Rainier real fast and there is a super flood as they rapidly melted water goes downhill and picking up trees and mud with it.

In the past 20 years they have been more aware of it for zoning, and training of people and kids how to evacuate schools and head up hill.

> Early reports think it might have been an earthquake high up that dislodged glacial ice and snow.

Later reports indicate that a huge glacier collapsed, perhaps from high temps melting snow cover, and causing a gigantic ice/rock/mud slide that fell into the river valley. It created a temporary dam, so a lot of water backed up behind it, and when the dam collapsed, that huge mass of water raced down the valley, combined with the ice, rocks, and mud. Unimaginably horrible.

Key Points (updated Aug 26, 18:44 UTC)

A magnitude 5.2 seismic event occurred near the border between Nepal and China on Aug 26 at 8:37 AM local time (10:52 AM China Standard Time).

The USGS determined that the seismic event was a glacial collapse and debris flow that caused subsequent catastrophic impacts downstream.

This event was initially reported as a magnitude 4.4 earthquake. Additional analysis of nearby seismic stations, long period seismic waves, and satellite imagery led to the determination that the seismic event was instead a glacial collapse and debris flow, and that no earthquake had occurred.

And that’s an understatement.

There could not have been any survivors.

That went on for far longer than I expected it to last and was far larger.
