On August 25, 1976, Boston released its self-titled debut album. The band’s founding members who toured to support Boston were Tom Scholz, Brad Delp, John ‘Sib’ Hashian, Barry Goudreau, and Fran Sheehan. However, the legendary album was mostly recorded in a home studio by musical mastermind and multi-instrumentalist Scholz and lead vocalist Delp.
The record featured several hit songs that became radio staples, including “More Than a Feeling,” “Peace of Mind,” “Foreplay/Long Time,” and “Rock & Roll Band.” Still, Boston is often highlighted as an album that is fantastic from start to finish for good reason. Brad Delp’s powerful voice, which was remarkably emotive, and Tom Scholz’s legendary writing and musicianship combined to create songs that are still beloved decades later.

When I really need to rock out, it’s Boston.

Scholz also brought in a couple of drummers.
I’m guessing most FReepers older than 60 did too. I wish I had enough forethought to buy 2 copies and never opened one of them. Probably be worth a fortune today.
I never saw them live. I heard it was disappointing as compared to their studio sound. Of course that studio sound was awesome.
Saw them twice (after each of the first 2 albums were released and toured). Don’t Look Back tour, I had 2nd row, middle for $16.75 a seat.
Saw Boston on their very 1st tour.
The Cars were the other band.
The auditorium was packed to the rafters.
Both only had their first album to support, both bands played every song they had.
Price of admission..... a cool $8.50

Back in the days before autotune, when the performers had real talent.
it is shocking to me how many Great albums were recorded in home studios or in just a one or 2 day session.
offhand the doors, Black Sabbath, beatles, nirvana, led zeppelin, motorhead, metalica, etc
and also how many albums that are worked on for a year which had great anticipation that kinda suck
Never saw them live, either, but I have seen other bands of that era that had pretty boring stage presence. YES was one of them...........
One of the reasons I bought the album was because its cover design was reminiscent of the Science Fiction novel series by James Blish, Cities In Flight, where the cities of Earth could utilize a newly invented device to literally take off from Earth and cruise thru space..........
I was very disappointed with the show. They had mechanical issues with the sound for the first half of the concert, and I could hardly hear the vocals over the music.
I always thought that Boston would be a hard band to see live, since Scholz, an MIT graduate, designed and built his own equipment, and his garage band recordings didn't translate to arena performing, IMHO.

Yes, I slowly replaced my 8 track collection with cassettes. Had one in the car as well, under the dash type....................
I didnt see many concerts in my youth. Actually only one before I graduated HS. EWF and it was fantastic. Saw a handful of others in college. Quality, just not quantity.
Now I have been spending the last decade or so trying to catch what remains of the live performers from that era. Saw YES last year (obviously not all original members) and they rocked! The music and the performers.
And I’ve been listening to it almost weekly for these past 50 years. More Than A Feeling is always my go-to.

I saw YES in 1979, IIRC, on their “YES In the Round” tour. They performed on a giant turntable...............
