A 54-year-old woman in Auckland, New Zealand, has received a full apology from the parking company Smart Compliance Management after they issued a parking ticket to her on the day she died, then came back to life.

The woman was arriving at the New World Supermarket in Orewa on Auckland’s Hibiscus Coast when she collapsed in the parking lot on July 26.

...

After what was almost certainly the longest few moments of their life, however, the chest compressions worked.

...

He also said that the paramedics from the ambulance told him, after his daughter had been taken to North Shore Hospital by ambulance, that her heart had briefly stopped and explained that “momentarily, she was technically dead”.

In amongst all the drama, quite understandably, no-one thought to check on the woman’s car, which sat in the parking lot of the New World for five-and-a-half hours. The time limit of the New World parking lot is 90 minutes.

A few days after...she received an $80 breach notice in the mail. Her family explained the situation and Smart Compliance Management took action immediately. By reducing the fine to $30.

A ticket for parking more than 90 minutes in a grocery parking lot?

> Douchebags.

I would locate their identity in a slightly different part of the anatomy, more around the backside.

They credited her for the time she was dead. Lovely.

"...longest few moments of their life..."

I hate seeing "their" used in this context. What is the point of using "their" instead of "her" when we already know it's a woman?
I can see it if the writer doesn't want to reveal the sex of the individual, but that is not the case here.

The word their refers to her rescuers, who were plural in number and sex not identified.

At least it was New Zealand dollars. So closer to $20 US. But still ridiculous.

Often seen when nearby businesses may keep customers longer.
We have a local theater adjacent to many other businesses, and parking in front of those businesses is designated NOT theater parking, and is all time-limited.

you might see the same sort of thing where a popular restaurant or club is adjacent to other stores. Those stores wouldn’t want to see their parking taken up with folks going to a relaxed dinner or to see a band at a club where they might be 2 - 3 hours, or perhaps more.

My son was born at Molndal Hospital in Gothenburg Sweden. Their only parking lot was the kind you had to buy a ticket for at a machine.

We got a ticket for 12 hours. But it was a long delivery. By the time I made it out, 15 hours later, we had a 1000 SeK ticket. About $100 at the time.

I asked the hospital to cut some slack. They just shrugged. Went to city parking court office and they balled me out (the Swedish way - clucking a lot) and wouldn’t do anything about it.

Crap happens.

Now my advice to those who die. Declare the pennies on your eyes . . . . .

Back home, there was a restaurant that had a racket with a towing company. There was a sign posted, “unauthorized vehicles will be towed”. Someone we know was towed while they were eating dinner. It was the only business there. Needless to say, we didn’t eat there more than once.

Oh, I’d have had WORDS with the restaurateur over that crap.

Like, “Da Hell my car’s ‘unauthorized’...? I’m in your restaurant paying for the fare, and you have my car towed? Pay my towing bill.”

Like I said, it was a racket between the restaurant owner and the tow company.
