Lindsey Austen received an alert that a drone was approaching her home in Richmond on Monday – prompting her to excitedly run outside to see it.
Austen told Storyful it was the first time one of her packages had been dropped off by the flying robot. She began recording before the drop-off turned out to be a total disaster.
Footage showed the drone hovering high above her pool in her backyard, making tons of noise as the propellers kept it in the air before a hatch opened, releasing her package.
'Oh my god,' Austen said in shock.
The drone dropped her fairly large Amazon box into her pool, plunging it into the water. The faux pas prompted her to let out an expletive.
'I don't think I'll be wanting any more drone deliveries,' she told the outlet, adding that the delivery had left her shocked.
Amazon prompts users to pick a safe delivery site, suggesting customers select a drop-off location at least 10 feet away from people, pets, vehicles and objects taller than 5 feet.
The Daily Mail has reached out to Amazon for comment.
Users on X shared several concerns after watching Austen's disappointing experience with the futuristic delivery system.
'There is no possible way that's going to be mass adopted. Not because it's not cool, but because of how loud it is,' one person wrote.
Another penned: 'I'm more confused about why it's dropping deliveries off from so high in the air.'
'To be fair, if it didn't land in the pool it might be in 15 pieces after being dropped from that height,' a third added.
Amazon began using drone delivery in 2022 and plans to roll out the delivery system to 500 cities in the US by the end of this year.
“Dude, it was SARCASM”
I know. See posts #10 and #16.
A “clean” delivery???
How will they do it? FCC licensed remote pilots in India? Bring them here?
That’s “F-ING!” hilarious, ain’t technology wonderful ........
I have some hoses that I bought from Sears in 1990. 100% rubber Craftsman hoses. With solid brass ends on them. I bought them the summer I moved into my first house. They are both 75’. They literally don’t make them like that anymore.
My preferred hardware store is a family owned store in business at its current location for over 100 years.
I love it, it also deals in antique tools, boots and cloths.
Most anything I need for a project (other than electronics or lumber) I can find there.
Same, plus he also owns the entire plaza including the Benjamin Moore paint store and the Ariens, Toro, Exmark dealership. Plus, he lives a couple miles up the road from me.
What is the best is that when you go in there he has long time employees that actually HELP you find/buy what you are looking for.
The only time I stop at Home Depot of Lowes is because it is after work and they are on the right hand side on the way home. Plus, I tend to know where everything is. I also know more about fixing/construction/building than most of their employees.
No you just sound like a female or an out-of-shape guy. I deliberately go to PetSmart to pick up 40-lb bags of dog food just to get the exercise lifting them into the shopping cart then into my vehicle then out of my vehicle when I get home. All of which together with the punching bag I installed myself in my garage saves me on having to buy an expensive and stupid smelly gym membership just to watch narcissists trying to date one another.

I wouldn’t want to live in an area that had those loud things flying around me!!
That sounds awfully judgmental.
LMAO!
I doubt that there will ever be Amazon drone delivery in my area as it is very rural and over 200 miles from the nearest Amazon warehouse.
It doesn’t just sound that way. It is that way.
Thanks for the clarification.
Someone mixed up the firmware with New Shepard (i.e., “splashdown”)?

“Amazon prompts users to pick a safe delivery site,”
I don’t recommend having a safe delivered by drone. Or a grand piano, for that matter.
Oh, 4Runner. You sound angry. Why at me?
I didn’t say I didn’t exercise. I said I prefer not to leave the house for errands if I don’t need to.
I’ve got my heavy bag, Indian clubs, dumbbells, and aerobic walking with the dogs.
I don’t like smelly gym or locker rooms either. I’ve spent 3/4 of my young life in them. Not no more.
You called me a “female or an out-of-shape guy”. For no reason. Why?
Your homepage says you are a cyclist. Admirable and total fitness. I used to be able to ride bicycles and especially loved mountain biking and road biking. Just short treks, nothing extreme.
Alas, I’m neither a female or an out of shape guy. Just an old man doing the best I can.
4Runner,
You ignore my gentle public posts, and ignore my FReepmail.
Perhaps you’re on a long weekend trip to tone your Adonis-like body?
You owe me an apology for your insults.
Ha Ha Ha. Getting an apology from a narcissist is like finding hens teeth. Unlikely.
