Texas teacher breaks down in tears during class after his senior students struggled to read, write

A Texas high school teacher was reduced to tears and broke down in front of his class when he realized the seniors he was teaching couldn’t complete a writing exercise.

Darius Williams, a teacher for Houston Independent School District’s Wheatley High School, said he couldn’t get through the first class of the second day of school before his students’ poor literacy skills were too much for him.

“I just finished a three-hour class, and I literally broke down in the middle of class,” Williams said in an Instagram video during his lunch break on Tuesday. Williams, a New Education System (NES) Career and Technical Education (CTE) staffer, said he gave his class full of seniors two paragraphs to read and asked them to complete another sentence he had practically filled out for them, but was left stunned when they couldn’t finish the task.

“I basically completed the sentence for them, he said. “These are 17- and 18-year-old kids, and they couldn’t fill in four words. Four words!” exclaimed Williams.

“I gave them the scenario, we annotated together. I gave them the answers before we even had the problem and they couldn’t do it. I don’t know I simply don’t know where the problem is,” he said frustratingly.

“This is only day two, and I have seniors who simply cannot read and seniors who cannot write. They cannot write,” Williams cried out.

“Our young black men, our young brown men, our young black girls, and our young brown girls,” Williams said as he began to sob before ending the video.

If you want to go down a rabbit hole, watch the YouTube videos from teachers about their students who can’t read, write or do math, and how they don’t even want to try to learn. Its a cottage industry with teachers posting videos about how they either are incredibly frustrated or have quit teaching because the kids who show up in their classes have not learned in the prior grade and don’t want to learn in their grade. Even basics.

How many White teachers knew this but remained silent for fear of reprisals?

Answer: ALL OF THEM!

I just experienced this yesterday. A black female co-worker told me her son fled from police from a traffic stop. They did not chase him but have his name and address. He still hasn’t turned himself in.

I asked his age and he is 23. So I said “Is he an idiot?” I mean, he is a grown adult and she defended him and said “How was he supposed to know”?

Now she is mad at me and not talking to me cause I hurt her feelings.

Learing to reed and rite is racist.

Even worse, it's "acting white." That is worthy of severe castigation, including death.

I tutored in my state college for some extra money and the people who came to me were pathetic, almost all blacks without even a 4th grade mastery of English or math.

It's a crime that they were passed through high school with a diploma.

I had something similar happen years ago when I was repairing some equipment in a classroom. It was just me and the teacher when out of nowhere she just started talking, “why do they keep sending me kids that can’t read”? “Why do they keep passing them”? I will say it was at an alternative campus with the troublemaking kids, but still, her point was valid.

Disdain for education is a big part of poor black culture - enforced with violence. The parents don’t care. No one cares.

“I don’t know I simply don’t know where the problem is,” he said frustratingly.

The first problem is that parents don’t read to their kids anymore. Or have them read books on their own.

The second problem is no on gets a 0 on work not turned in anymore. They get a 70 instead.

The parents and the school system is failing these kids and then blaming teachers ... or racism. We’ve got to stop coddling these kids and expect better from them. They will one day be in charge of this country so we need to get them ready for that task.

I have a 22-year-old great niece, valedictorian of her senior class in HS and in her nursing program who has trouble reading a birthday card.

Reading is not hard at all to teach. It just shows that the educational bureauracy is not intersted in students learning how to read and that students are not interested in learning how to read. Of course, what they are offered to read would not be interesting for anyone to read.

American education has been feminized into oblivion.

I knew of a Chinese female immigrant who started the ninth grade fresh from China. She would attend class with a English Chinese dictionary. About two years later she topped the scores in the state exam for that school for that year.

Student taught at an urban HS back in 1975. Had kids who just slept through the class. I tried to wake them up numerous times. My mentor, a teacher of 25 years, told me to just let them sleep. He said I was taking time away from the kids who wanted to learn and that the sleepers would be out of school as soon as they turned 16 and could legal leave anyway.

I suspect most White public school teachers are PERFECTLY FINE with graduating dumb students as they are LEFTISTS*

Not in my neck of the woods they aren't. And the ridiculous way the state steps in to make sure "no child is left behind" has shortened their careers. Back when my wife first began teaching, the average years a new teacher put in was 10 years before leaving. Now it's less than 5. It's not the teachers ... it's the demand from government intrusion to make sure that even those that don't deserve it pass and graduate. And it's the lack of input from parents that don't even bother to help their own kids learn to read.

“How can illiterate high school “graduates” have a chance in life?”
*************************************************

I don’t know about elsewhere but here in Maryland many do very well by having WELL-COMPENSATED “positions” in federal, state and local government.
