Mayor Zohran Mamdani threw his staff under the bus Tuesday after an awkward public disagreement between City Hall and NYPD officials over whether the department will send cops to serve as security detail for his wife Rama Duwaji’s upcoming Middle East trip.
Mamdani appeared to blame a mistake by his City Hall staff after a high-profile back-and-forth with the police department.
“There was a miscommunication. She has not yet taken that trip and when she takes that trip it will be without any NYPD detail,” Mamdani told PIX11.
The mayor’s clarification came after The Post reported late Monday that Duwaji – a 29-year-old Syrian-American artist described by Mamdani as a “private person” – planned to travel to Syria and Lebanon to visit family, with her police detail in tow.
“Upon the strong recommendation of the NYPD, the first lady’s security detail will be joining her when she travels to visit family in Syria and Lebanon,” Mamdani’s spokeswoman Dora Pekec had confirmed.
Both countries are on the US State Department’s “Do Not Travel” list due to security concerns.
But City Hall’s assertion drew a stunning response from the NYPD – a police force headed by Commissioner Jessica Tisch, a pro-Israel moderate who hasn’t been shy about her differences with the Israel critic Mamdani.
“The NYPD does not send officers to countries with level four travel advisories for discretionary reasons not linked to investigative work,” a department spokesperson insisted early Tuesday.

Imagine the utter gall of this foreigner, trying to send New York City police officers to countries on the U.S. State Department "Do Not Travel" list that are at "Level Four" for risk.
It also says a lot that his wife is safe going to those countries.

Why does she need a security detail. Is she going somewhere that frowns upon women who go out in public without their husband or brother?
Why would she need police escort to the Middle East? Maybe to keep the adoring jihadi hordes from seeking autographs?
Why does she need a security detail in a muslim country. NYC citizens don’t get a security detail anywhere.

A security detail is a very desirable perk——makes them feel important.
Rumor now that in private at work Mamdani is petulant, easily irritated and angry against any failures-—like Kamala Harris.
He hasn’t built up enough loyalty to stop them from running to the scandal journalists on the celebrity network shows or book authors.
I heard psychologists say people build “emotional bank accounts” with others, such as a long time pal of a college woman who then doesn’t show up when she promised but has been such a loyal friend doing many past things for her the incident is forgiven.
But someone who she barely knows and just let her down or went behind her back is another story.
How many owe a lot to Mamdani? Not many.
He thinks NYC is a separate country, and he can have a foreign policy.
