The discovery of the gold cross is an interesting story in itself, but the story becomes even stranger. 'Tucker's Cross' had been on display at the museum for years. One day, as they were preparing for Queen Elizabeth II's royal visit to the island, it was discovered that at some point, the highly valuable cross had been stolen -- and swapped out for a cheap plastic replica! The loss of the golden cross was a huge blow to Bermuda, especially as it has never been recovered. Its location is still an unsolved mystery to this day.

The Medium article has a sort of non-pay paywall, but as we all know, there are ways around that.

"...The greatest valuable single object that had ever been discovered from a shipwreck, was ‘Tucker’s Cross’. It was discovered by Bermudan diver, Teddy Tucker. The cross was made of 22-karat gold, with seven emeralds as big as musket balls....

That's a curious statement to make, considering they didn't back it up (at least not outside the paywall) with an estimated value. Even the Wikipedia page fails to mention the object's weight, or how much 22K gold is in it, or the estimated worth.
