What if the current unrest in the country leads to a second American Civil War? How would that play out in the modern era? Let’s allow ourselves a daydream — or nightmare — about how it might go.
Granted, there wouldn’t be battles like those that were fought in Gettysburg or Vicksburg, but it’s conceivable each side would come up with their own flag design, since symbols are essential. The Right might construct a “freedom” flag, which would stand in stark contrast to the flag of the Left: a raised fist decorated with small anarcho-feminist and transgender icons — with the middle finger extended.
The first shot of the new civil war will not be fired at Fort Sumter, but could ring out during one of the nation’s many anti-ICE demonstrations. Leftist warriors will drive their SUVs and Honda vehicles into ICE agents with a sense of furious self-righteousness, only to find themselves instantly transported to the afterlife.
Consumed by their love of open borders, blue state migrant activists could ignore reports of rape gangs pillaging their daughters and granddaughters. Some will urge tolerance as they chalk the violent incidents up to “valuable cultural differences,” the same way they will dismiss the execution-style murders of their gay sons and friends by Berlin-style ISIS killers.
The Left will be taken by surprise when President Trump might declare martial law. They could long for the old days when the worst punishment they received was a blast of pepper spray or a slap on the wrist.
In blue cities, the Left could meet openly in Quaker meeting houses, Unitarian churches, and city-owned buildings. Formerly benign groups like Nuns on the Bus might be renamed Nuns with Guns, as the streets of New York and Philadelphia could become like armed camps.

The states may secede, but the multi faction groups will burn the blue cities first. It will be easy to identify the enemies of those of the DSA side: all blacks, those skinny runts of ANTIFA, AWFL types who will be screaming till they die, and the Alah Akbars who’s I’ll be throwing rocks or wielding machetes and knives.

Here is how a civil war will start: a blue state will refuse to extradite a criminal to a red state because that criminal fits their belief structure.
Leftist cross border skirmishes will intensify as they can violate any laws because a blue state will protect them. Any red state activity will face full force of law and unfortunately our red states will willingly hand over their citizens into the hands of corrupt justice.
This means red state reprisals will be few… and blue state incursions will be many. It will escalate until red state citizens themselves will have to thwart their own states law enforcement by protecting a citizen unjustly demanded by a blue state.
The civil war will start as red state citizens marshal against their own weak governments.
It will be likeBleeding Kansas and would likely lead to 2 governments inside a red state… just like Kansas had prior to the civil war.
The struggle for power went back a good 20 years before the open conflict of the civil war. Perhaps that lead up period should also be considered as part of the civil war itself. Control of government is just a different tool in war, but it is still war… tempered by clandestine hostility.
Democrats kept advancing their policies in that period of history. Compromise of 1850. Fugitive Slave Act. Kansas-Nebraska Act. The Whigs fell back with hopes to avoid an irreversible conflict.
The conflict was already there. It was just a matter of time until it showed its true form.
