Except for that very last part, which was a bit OTT, that scenario is almost believable. A situation where people stand face to face, yet still think they need to communicate via Text and Email messages. We are not too far off from that, at least not with a small segment from Generation Z.
There is hope though. As the school year approaches, I’m hearing more and more about schools deciding that certain hours of the school day will be Phone Free. Some did it last year, and guess what? No riots, no maulings, no lawsuits for ‘psychic trauma’, so it can be done.
My dog destroyed my mobile yesterday. I haven’t felt this liberated or isolated in years.

I remember how shocked I was when some of my relatives was sending e-mail messages to her husband living in the same home instead just howl on him.
About 19 years ago, my then-16 year old son was in a car with a guy friend and two girl friends parked on the street in front of our house. It was a chilly night and I saw all the car windows were fogged up…and bathed in an eerie blue glow. I went out to investigate and found all four of them on their phones! Ugh.
I read that as social lacerations.

I was at a bakery up in Middlebury, VT a few years ago, a major Leftist fever swamp, and a bunch of college kids were messaging each other while they were sitting next to each other...totally weird.
Lol! Some of that may have been because Teenagers love to keep (what they think are) secret conversations from their parents, and they figured somebody would be looking out the front window if one of the Boys had walked over to the Girls’ car to speak.

That’s pretty goofy, but most likely, ‘everybody else’ was doing the same thing, that or, certain ones may have been sending what we used to call ‘Love Notes’ to someone else in the little group.
