A Middlesex County police department used an officer disguised as a shrub to crack down on distracted driving Wednesday, issuing 74 citations.

The Dunellen Police Department conducted a distracted driving enforcement operation on the 100 block of North Washington Avenue, an area with heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic, according to a Facebook post.

The goal was to enforce New Jersey’s handheld cellphone law and increase safety in the community.

Police issued the 74 citations during a six-hour span.

“Our ‘shrub’ was busy,” the department said in the post.

They left out the felony charges of the mexican gardener who assaulted the cop with his trimmers, or so they thought, charges were dropped when it was proved he was working at that yard.

Should have used a mannequin and a parked car like Gabe Kaplan did once.

A favorite episode of Police Story. Probably could’ve made a series with Gabe staying in the role.

I see persons driving down the road with both hands on the phone in front of their faces. I’m behind people at stoplights that can’t seem to physically let go of the phone and ignore the light when it turns. I just don’t understand the attraction.

I have a real problem with communities that put 35mph signs behind shrubs and station officers in ghillie suits with radar guns to catch outsiders passing by at 55mph.

The Neu Joysey Fuzz’s number one priority is distracted drivers. Districted drivers is now at the top of Joysey’s most “wildly popular” crime list.

I think those are called Ghillie Suits: tactical camoflage, often used in British military. Can be purchased for as little as $28.00 on TEMU.

I disguise myself as a civilian every day in an unmarked vehicle and I observe so many uses of phones behind the wheel that they’re difficult to count...
