ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A News10NBC investigation has uncovered payroll problems at a local tool and die shop, where some workers say they haven’t been paid in four weeks. Accurate Tools, located on Lyell Avenue, makes precision metal parts and components and employs about a dozen people. News10NBC reporter Brett Davidsen spoke with employees and the owner about the ongoing pay issues.
“We work everyday, but we don’t get paid,” Bill Riesenberger said. “It started out as a day or two late, and then a week late, now it’s been up to 4 weeks late and there’s no end in sight.”
Riesenberger, a 70-year-old mill operator, has worked at Accurate Tools for more than 12 years. He said he’s been considering his future after the company stopped paying workers on a regular basis.
The company was bought in 2024 by Temidayo Adebayo. News10NBC’s Brett Davidsen went to the shop to speak with Adebayo about the payroll problems.
At first, Adebayo didn’t want to speak with Brett.
“Are you going to solve the problem?” Adebayo said. “If you’re going to solve the problem then I’ll talk. If you’re not going to solve the problem…”
“I can’t solve the problem,” Brett said.
“Exactly the point,” Adebayo said. “Who is going to solve the problem?”
“You. You’re the owner,” Brett said.
Adebayo then had plenty to say. He admitted finances are tight and said there’s lots of work, but it isn’t getting out in a timely manner, so no money is coming in. He said he’s been unable to get loans or grants to bridge the gap.
Adebayo appeared to blame his employees for the financial problems.
“Well, when you quote a job like this that it’s 20 minutes to make and it takes two hours to do it — and they call you guys to come here…” Adebayo said.
“Well, let me ask you, does it take two hours because you don’t have enough employees or are you saying your employees are not productive?” Davidsen said.
“They’re not productive— unless they get paid,” Adebayo said.
When asked why he doesn’t replace unproductive employees, Adebayo said finding skilled machinists is difficult.
“No one is holding anyone,” Adebayo said. “If you don’t like it, go work somewhere else. I need them, so I can’t fire them. See?” “I’ve given them a check that they can hold any day, anytime, anywhere, that shows I’ve withdrawn government taxes from those hours,” Adebayo said.
“So they’re just waiting for the money to clear,” Davidsen said.
“That is exactly the point,” Adebayo said.
Riesenberger said he feels trapped, fearing if he leaves, he’ll lose the money he’s owed.
“It’s a strain,” Riesenberger said. “Like anybody else, we’re living off of our savings and stuff and it keeps dwindling down.”
“I don’t feel like starting over again,” Riesenberger said. “I like what I do. And I like the people I work with. I don’t want to stop working yet.”
News10NBC reached out to the state Department of Labor. A spokesperson said the agency doesn’t have any open investigations regarding Accurate Tools and said if a worker believes they may have been a victim of wage theft, they can file a claim on the agency’s website.
Not saying it isn’t. We have run into crooks of all persuasians in the HVAC/Contracting business. The thing is that IF the owner was a white guy, the employees fingers would be burning up from dialing the NYSDOL. Somehow in this case, they are holding back (most likely not to appear “racist” ™ or alienophobic)

Seems to me like the guy, when he bought the business, had his own ideas (unfounded) when he decided on his own how long it takes to do a particular job. Got a similar problem in the auto repair industry, too. There are some hooror stories I’ve heard about pay.....not so much about WHEN you’d be paid, but how much a particular job paid. Glad now that I am retired & away from this crap.

That’s what he thinks...He has to have payroll records that actually specify that there were checks issued with withholding, EVEN if not cashed and tax authorities want those taxes in a limited amount of time.
If he’s gone through the motions of “pretending” to issue paychecks, WITHHOLDING federal/state taxes and SS, the IRS and State should be all over this NOW...It will take someone on the ball seeing this on the news to set it in motion..
Failure to pay employees is one thing. Failure to pay WITHHOLDING tax and SS is something else entirely. NO money - not their problem...no excuses..
