WASHINGTON – President Trump on Thursday unveiled a plan to give military veterans a priority on trucking jobs, cutting out illegal immigrants who “cannot read” road signs.
“We’re going to make it as easy as possible for the veterans,” Trump said at an event at the White House.
Flanked by two massive truck cabs, one a military green and the other blue with a large American eagle painted on it, the president praised veterans for having “a talent” for truck driving while blasting states that gave commercial driving licenses to illegal immigrants.
“Radical left maniacs at the state level have issued them commercial driver’s licenses, even though they’re not entitled to have them,” the president said.
“They don’t speak English. They cannot read basic road signs. In many cases, they’ve engaged in reckless driving that has caused many, many preventable deaths,” he added.
“We’ve got to stop it. It’s dangerous what’s happening,” he said, noting American highways were being “terrorized by unqualified illegal aliens, dangerously driving big rigs.”
In 2025, at least 30 deaths resulted from 17 fatal crashes caused by illegal immigrant commercial vehicle drivers, according to the Department of Transportation.
Under the new program, the DoT will expand the eligibility for veterans to receive expedited commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs), extending the waiver period from 12 months to 24 months.
For veterans who never drove a heavy commercial vehicle during their military service, CDL training will be offered.

I like the idea of Vets behind the wheel on our roads.
Not all of them, mind you, the ones that can pass drug tests.
And not the ones that have TDS.
I’d also like the idea that they can be armed across State Lines, per the Supremacy Clause.
If drivers’ licenses, gay marriage, wedding and business licenses are valid in all States and territories, how come my carry permit isn’t? I digress.
As the President says, thank you for your attention to this matter.

Not all vets should be long haul truckers, not all truckers should be vets, but all truckers should damn well speak and read English. I remember a history story of a veteran trucking line. The Red Ball Express I believe it was called. If you are eating a pop tart or having a beer. Chances are it was moved at one point or another on a big truck. Thanks DJT. Drivers start your engines.

"The Red Ball Express" was a great movie. I'm a vet. I in no way think I could be an over-the-road trucker. Drivers don't need to be Vets. Vets don't need to be drivers. I certainly couldn't.

My dad was 82nd airborne in 1951. He just barely read at an 8th grade level. He put nearly 2 million miles on a KW and never would teach me how to drive it. I learned after I left home. What he did teach me to do was build houses. He told me truckin is pretty good money but it ain’t no life. I have a grandson that’s been to every school Cummings has. He works hard keeping them running. I just tell him what dad said. Fix them, just stay outa the saddle. Thanks for your service.

This is a nothing burger. Trucking companies will take who they can get for the price offered. When illegals become illegal drivers they move to the next candidate in line.

Me too. Quick story. Dad didn’t want me In the army, learning to field strip a Gerend Rifle and the 1970 draft board had a spot. So I joined the USN submarine service to duck Nam. I get to the Navy gun range in San Diego and my Company Commander asked who knows how to properly load an M-1. I raised my hand and showed the company. Gibson asked how I learned. Told him dad was 82nd Airborne. Nuff sedd.
