I know about one of the “quant” guys who was given a well-known Scholar name with a grant.
He’s driving his venture capital-funded company into the ground, and he’s cocky.
Maybe the next version of the AI will finally uncover what is needed, right?
That’s what these people are banking on. The answer to cold fusion hinges on who gets the next AI iteration to answer first.

A friend’s son has a job for a company, in which he just pursues theoretical geometry, in whatever direction he wants to go. Just recently he won a Fields medal (which I never heard of but sounds impressive) for a solution he arrived at in college.

Bezos was a “quant” guy on Wall Street before he quit and moved to Seattle to start Amazon.
Way I see it, its silly to go to Wall Street if you can work for a top AI company.

IIRC, Renaissance Technologies uses mathematical models to do big buys and sells to get fractional changes in the market in the direction they want. Their fund is only open to employees I believe, of which a large number are mathematicians.

Facebook is paying an average of $65 million each to several 22 to 28 year olds to program artificial intelligence code.
When I started working in the 1970’s I was making under $8 an hour with my intelligence..... 🙁
Imagine having that kind of salary each year.
What do you buy after you get the nice home and furniture and a car and a boat?
Marry a few times and divorced?...👰 then you turn 30 years old....
