Explanation: This could be the view from an exoplanet orbiting around a red dwarf star, but it is our own Sun. This image was taken on July 22, 2026, in the Okanagan region in the Canadian province of British Columbia. Wildfire smoke from the Pacific Northwest acted as a solar filter, allowing the photographer to take this photo of the Sun directly. Several sunspots are also visible in this eerie image; just below and right of the center is AR 4493, a fast evolving, giant active solar region and sunspot group. The smoke is made of tiny particles that help block and scatter light with bluer colors, so the light we see coming from the Sun is dimmer and redder than usual (but it is never safe to stare directly at the Sun). Sunsets and sunrises are also more colorful because of the smoke. Some 6 billion years from now, the Sun will actually start to turn redder as it approaches its red giant phase.

Saw that a lot in Wis. for a few weeks this summer.
Superman better lay low for a while!................
Eerie.
I see that in my neighborhood every day lately. We get this purple twilight when the sun is low in the sky.
This is how we know “Air Quality” and Climate Science” is little more than a Socialist tool. There is no political will to control these wildfires. There is actually a “let it Burn policy” currently in effect ( it’s the science”), Intitial attack is seriously inneficient, but BIG FIRE is a cottage industry that USFS management loves. Its like the Wildfire Industrial Complex, they actually want the fires to go big.
I’m going to repost your high IQ statements:
“Air Quality” and Climate Scienceâ is little more than a Socialist tool.
“There is no political will to control these wildfires.”
“There is actually a ‘let it Burn policy’ currently in effect”
“BIG FIRE is a cottage industry that USFS management loves”
“Its like the Wildfire Industrial Complex, they actually want the fires to go big.”
Nice work by the photographer. Itâs too bad the smoke gets in the way. It was so bad here in Illinois that we could smell it inside- the air conditioning was pulling it in.
“Some 6 billion years from now, the Sun will actually start to turn redder as it approaches its red giant phase.”
OMG, I first read that as 6 million years, not 6 billion. That’s a relief!
Is that smoke on the water? Or fire in the sky?
.
Do you have an air exchanger? We turn ours off when air conditioner runs. Maybe helps reduce smoke intake?
No, we donât, but it wasnât too bad inside. Mostly outside. We stayed in unless we absolutely had to go out.
