Ever since, life's glittering prizes in the shape of honorary degrees and academic accolades have cascaded down on Jason Arday along with lavish and high-minded praise.
Yet this week, a fellow don has pulled the rug from under those achievements in an excoriating assassination of Arday's work and character – more of which later.

Section 8 is a scheme wherein developers and landlords build, own, and operate “Low Income Housing”, usually in the form of two-story apartment buildings in a planned development. The residents pay part of the rent based on their ability, and the government tops it off to a guaranteed level.
British Council Estates are typically large, multi-story blocks of small apartments, that open onto front galleries (like older motels in the US). The local government owns and operates these. On TV, they are usually grubby and poorly maintained crap-holes, full of druggies and delinquents.
I don’t understand the behavior either. It is absolute sloth and entitlent, or getting back somehow at society for having more than them, by wantonly wasting it publicly. There are some in a nearby decayed urban area. Where factories closed down and White Flight occurred for those who could move. These are developments where a contractor goes to do work on the public tax payroll, and has to pick up all their equipment and take it with whenever they leave or are out of sight of it, or it will be stolen while they are away at lunch. Renters, whose rent is paid by the government in this area, sell anything not nailed down, including the furnace units, and then burn scrap wood in their bathtubs when it gets cold out. If you rent out a house with a chain link fence around the yard, the fence will disappear. No one ever knows nothing and saw nothing. Anyting with metal value as scrap gets stolen and sold. Aluminum bleachers at schools, electric car charging stations destroyed for their copper. Copper pulled from the walls, ceilings, and basements of unoccupied houses, leaving them uninhabitable and unsaleable. Sad testament to a part of our population.
I did that for a living back in the '70s and '80s and what you did was take an Xacto knife and literally cut out a line or paragraph of text printed on photo paper by a typesetter and paste it, except we didn't use glue, we rolled the back of the type with hot wax and then carefully laid it down on a new board with a T square on an art table then rolled the piece down with a wooden roller to make it stick firmly. Wax, unlike glue, could easily be pried up to place the type elsewhere if necessary. I did that with everything from newspaper pages to magazines to books.

Lol! Actually for the Inyo Register owned by the now defunct Chalfant Press which published all kinds of brochures, magazines, fishing guides, and books on the Eastern Sierra, including books about Bodie.
What's kind of funny to me is that no one called type "fonts" in the industry back then, it was "type face" as in typesetter or type writer. We only used the word font when referring a style of type face such as italics or bold font. Because the word "type face" was too long for computer menu bars, they substituted the word "Font" in it place and now everyone calls type faces fonts.

That deserves a Nobel Prize. It is almost unfathomable how he got through life that way -- not accomplishing a single kilowatt-hour of work in a whole century.
I sure hope Trump is cleaning house in the flag officer class and in the academies.
