Two appearances by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez this week have reignited criticism from conservatives as speculation continues over whether the New York Democrat could eventually seek the White House.
The back-to-back moments quickly spread across social media, with critics questioning both her campaign style and her response to a question about the U.S. Senate.
Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., first drew attention while campaigning in Tennessee for Democratic state Rep. Justin Pearson, who is running for Congress in the state’s 9th District.
Speaking at a get-out-the-vote event, Ocasio-Cortez urged supporters not to overlook traditionally Republican states.
“We can’t afford to leave Tennessee behind, Kentucky behind, Alabama behind, Mississippi behind, Georgia behind, South Carolina behind,” she said.
The speech immediately drew criticism online, with many conservatives arguing that Ocasio-Cortez appeared to adopt a Southern accent that differed from her usual speaking voice.
Commentators compared the moment to past criticism directed at former Vice President Kamala Harris and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, both of whom have faced accusations that they change their speaking style depending on the audience.

I picked up a little twang from my years living in Texas. I never even noticed until I moved back to the fetid s hole of Oregon and my family noticed. That stupid Tuesday has no idea about the south. Funny how she tries to fake a southern drawl but can’t even fake a Latino accent.
As an aside. I learned bad ‘Spanglish’ from my days in California. When I went on vacation to Argentina all the locals said “you sound like a Mexican.”
That’s just a popular myth.
The Democrats were horrible back then too.
We go easy on the ones that got assassinated because we are decent folks who don’t like to speak ill of the dead - we let the Left have their martyrs.
But if you really want to know how JFK and RFK would have been viewed without the martyr status - just look at the Kennedy brother who didn’t get assassinated - Ted.

My wife is from North Carolina. The accent is usually minimal but really comes out for an hour or two during and after phone conversations with her family there.
