BRIDGEWATER, New Jersey (AP) — The U.S. military said on Saturday that two additional service members were killed as part of the war with Iran, bringing the total number of deaths to 16.
The deaths reflect the complicated reality that American boots don’t need to be on the ground for there to be lethal risks in a conflict that involves drones, missiles and airplanes. American forces are arrayed across the Middle East, making other nations targets of Iran as the fighting has escalated after a breakdown in peace talks.
President Donald Trump has said the war is necessary to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons. As of Saturday afternoon, he had yet to issue a statement on the latest set of deaths that occurred in Jordan, with the White House instead sending the statement issued by U.S. Central Command.
First fatalities came soon after the war started
Shortly after the war began on Feb. 28, an Iranian drone strike at a civilian port in Kuwait killed six American soldiers. The soldiers were part of a supply and logistics unit based in Iowa who were working at a shipping container-style building that had no defenses.
A seventh soldier died more than a week after being wounded during a March 1 attack by Iran on the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia.
Later in March, six service members were killed when a KC-135 refueling aircraft supporting U.S. military operations against Iran crashed in Iraq. The aircraft was in “friendly” airspace when an unspecified incident involving another aircraft took place, according to U.S. Central Command.
On Monday, the U.S. military said a Navy pilot died in a helicopter crash in the Arabian Sea. The Navy initially described the July 1 crash as an emergency landing and said there was “no indication the emergency was...”

More Americans are killed in weekend violence in Chicago, LA, Detroit and other hellhole cities but the AP doesn't feel the need to remind us of that body count.
Not that I want President Trump to respond in like kind but it would be easy for him to compare and contrast their response to the deaths of those brave warriors who were left to die in Ben Ghazi and Trashkanistan.

I am not downplaying the deaths of our service people, but how many peeps die from violence on an average weekend in Chicago?

Now, let the press count the number of Service Members that have died by accident in the performance of regular duty since President Trump started the bombing of Iran.
I’m curious about the constant reference to an airman “Missing” amongst the two who were killed and four wounded. How could he be missing on an Airbase and be amongst fellow Airmen? If there is no body, did he just “take a hike” and disappear somewhere in Jordan? Anybody have an explanation?

If they had wanted to make a more honest and useful comparison, they would have compared the 16 non-boots-on-the-ground casualties with the number of casualties over a similar time period during boots-on-the-ground conflicts.
But that would have made President Trump look good, so - of course they didn’t.
