A receipt checker at a Florida Sam’s Club has been accused of letting a man walk out with stolen televisions and other high-end merchandise nearly 50 times — in a con pilfering $58,000 in goods.
Brenda Jacqueline Gayle Archer, 57, manned the door of the wholesale store in Sunrise, Fla., and would rubber-stamp the receipts of Troy Sidney Lawrence, 36, after he bought low-priced items and used the receipt to walk out with high-ticket items, NBC Miami reported, citing arrest records.
Archer, of Lauderhill, and Lawrence, of Sunrise, were arrested Tuesday for the “recurring scheme in which the same male suspect repeatedly exited the store with unpaid merchandise while purchasing only a minimal amount of low-cost items,” the reports said.
The club — located at 13550 West Sunrise Boulevard — earlier this month discovered missing TVs and other items with high price tags, which prompted an internal investigation and a review of six months of surveillance video.
The store uncovered that Lawrence made off with unpaid items on 46 occasions when Archer was assigned to check receipts at the exit of the wholesale club.
But each time she failed to check the items in his cart against his receipt, cops allege.
For example, Lawrence on June 8 paid for a TV wall mount — but brazenly waltzed out with two Samsung TVs, surveillance footage and store purchase records showed.
Sam’s Club alleges the total the pair stole was worth $58,000.

Yep.
This is why shit keeps increasing in price. We are such a lenient society.
Next time:
1). Make sure each incident involves items with a total cost of under $950.
2). Pull off your scam in Cali, not Florida
You’ll be home free.
Let me guess...naw...I don’t have to.
How could Brenda Jacqueline Gayle Archer not know that Sam’s has cameras everywhere and keeps very careful track of all of its inventory?
“Paging Yogi Bear. Mr. Yogi Bear. You have a call. Please pickup the white courtesy phone.”
“Receipt checker”. Uh-huh.
They can’t keep their own employees from being lowlife thieves, they lock up the toothpaste (instead of thieves) and then they insult me by wanting to riffle through my stuff after I’ve paid for it. Screw you.
Once I’ve paid for it, it’s my stuff. No, you can’t look at it. You want to play silly reindeer games you install yourself at the register.
I knew it.
All employees with any fiduciary responsibilities, no matter how removed from money, should ALWAYS be background checked and given extra scrutiny. I guarantee that over half of these order checkers would not pass muster.
Sam’s club is owned by Walmart, so that should tell you something.
She seems nice
(Troy Sidney Lawrence, 36)
Well, didn’t work out it seems
> Sam’s has cameras everywhere <
The woman was probably nervous the first time she ran the scam. She knew she was taking a chance. But nothing happened. Nobody called her to the back office. No police showed up.
Home free!
So she did it 45 times more.
I swear — these people wake up every day thinking, “What scam can I pull off today?”
The city and the commercial environs of Sunrise, Florida, make for some of the shadiest places in the entire state.
DIE hiring practices.
Lenient society indeed
The democrats keep undermining the country with DEI and soicalism is a master plan.
Brenda Jacqueline Gayle Archer, 57, manned the door
a woman “manned” the door? isn’t this the sort of language we are lectured not to use? Just as we aren’t supposed to say “pregnant women” because it’s bigoted to just assume anyone who is pregnant is a woman?
Inventory shrinkage is a serious problem.
Here we see, this was an inside job.
There are reports that big amounts of “shrinkage” happens due to inside jobs. Shoplifting is a serious problem, but some retailers learn their own employees are pilfering. Sad state of affairs.
Yep. the criminal mind. Most people can't relate.
But honestly, a lot of business owners/operators are like this too. I've worked for a few.
