Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) argued Tuesday that television networks have an “ethical obligation” not to air President Trump’s upcoming address to the nation if it’s not “rooted in evidence and fact.”
“I don’t think we should be contributing to any platforming of lies about our election,” the lefty “Squad” lawmaker told a reporter on Capitol Hill.
Ocasio-Cortez suggested media outlets should review Trump’s remarks before deciding whether to put the speech on the air.
“Many news outlets, oftentimes, may receive transcripts, and I think we have an ethical obligation to not air things that undermine our election that are not rooted in evidence and fact,” the congresswoman continued.
She added, “Of course, it depends on the contents of his speech.”
Earlier Tuesday, Trump confirmed that his planned address to the nation Thursday night will concern “free and fair elections,” among other topics.
“It’s really, really big for us and our country has to shape up,” the president told reporters in the Oval Office. “But that’s what we’re going to be talking about.”

That would be quite the call in 1976, 1986, or 1996.
In 2026, if he were on the Big 4, many would just flip to ESPN or Netflix. The speech will be on Runble, YouTube, X, etc. FOREVER. It will be made into Memes. It will be cited and criticized and celebrated. There will be a Trumpian phrase that will dominate what’s left of “the headlines”, where half the people are clutching pearls, and the other half get it.
AOC is young enough to know better. I am 63, and I know the lay of the land is completely changed.
Ocrazio-Cortex using any derivative of the word “ethics” is, well, Ocrazio.
We all know how, in recent years, the opposing party gives a rebuttal to the State of the Union speech.
I don’t know offhand if they routinely do so for other presidential speeches.
Anyway, Ocasio-Cortez is full of it on this issue. If she and her fellow Democrats take issue with anything the president has to say , they are free to do so using their freedom of speech. And i’m sure we will hear from them.
Go for it. Tell us where the president is wrong in your Democratic opinion. But calls for censorship of the president is totalitarian territory. She is full of it on that issue.
Bless her heart. In the interest of the First Amendment, we should censor talk that Democrats don’t lije.
