Misery for California shoppers as grocery bills set to spike due to new law (recycling)

Misery on the menu?

California shoppers could soon be paying even more at the checkout line as a sweeping new state recycling measure threatens to send grocery prices soaring, with dairy manufacturers warning some businesses may be forced to shut down or flee the Golden State.

Senate Bill 54 is now entering its first phase of implementation, with companies expected to receive their first bills as early as next month, reported SFGATE.

The measure aims to reduce landfill waste by making manufacturers financially responsible for the packaging they sell after it is thrown away.

It charges companies impact fees on products they sell while also requiring them to phase out packaging that cannot be adequately reused, recycled or composted.

The dairy industry says it stands to be among the hardest hit because many of its products rely on packaging that does not currently meet the measure’s requirements.

CalRecycle, however, estimates the impact will be far smaller, projecting households will pay between $57 and $190 more annually based on data from the California Department of Finance.

Supporters say those added costs are outweighed by shifting the financial burden of packaging waste from taxpayers to the companies that produce it.

California doesn’t even behave like a state in the Union anymore. It’s more like a rogue breakaway colony.

Someone needs to tell those idiots the rest of us are NOT going to bail them out when they go bankrupt.

In Canada, whatever else can be said, the immigration invasion is almost all legal.

The Liberals imported their majorities from the Third World.

So stupid BoomerCons with their “I support legal immigration” are a large part of how Canada got to where it is.

Carney hag gone from one disaster to another and he is the most popular post-War Prime Minister. Courtesy of massive support from White Boomers and wogs.

Oh, that was so obvious. I knew I would not have to go through many responses before someone pointed it out.

Gas was high here in Commiefornia even BEFORE the war with Iran..it was over 5 bucks a gallon thanks to NewSCUMs gas taxes, he wants everyone here to drive an electric car so hes happy when the gas prices go up, but since we were at war with Iran he could easily just blame the prices on Trump but its HIM

Not everyone is in a position to move out.

I used to regularly visit a small factory in Redlands. The hourly people on the floor were mostly Hispanic, but the management and professional staff were mostly Orange County folks who grew up there. Just about every one I talked to had the same goal in mind: to sell the house that their daddy built for $50 K which was now worth over a million, then retire to Arizona / Texas / Florida. They were conservative as a rule and eager to leave la-la-land for saner parts.

Recycling saves one-quarter of 1 percent of landfill space. It’s an economic boon for city managers because they get govt grants to implement the recycling program as long as they pretend the program is saving the earth. My husband is still trying to get me to adhere to the ritual of separating our trash but it’s hopeless. I make an obligatory effort to avoid a lecture but otherwise I refuse to play the game.

These are the most common symbols stamped on plastic containers. Those stramped 1 or 2 are those being recycled. The rest go into the land fill where I live.

It does no such thing. It adds cost to the same waste. Unless folks simply stop buying the products, the waste will be the same.

No consumer benefits...only gov. benefits.
