PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - A political candidate in North Carolina dropped out of the race after he was recently arrested.
That candidate -- 37-year-old William “Liam” Schuyler Jr. -- was running to represent District 6 on the Pitt County Board of County Commissioners.
An arrest warrant alleged that Schuyler took a picture of a female without her consent on May 1. He was subsequently charged with felony secret peeping and was arrested on June 30.
Records showed he was released from the Pitt County jail by the next morning after he posted a $10,000 bond.
Sister-station WITN reported that Schuyler ran uncontested in the District 6 Democratic primary back in March, and was therefore set to run against Republican incumbent Gary Weaver in November’s election.
On Wednesday, July 8, though, the Pitt County Democratic Party said in a statement that Schuyler was dropping out of the race.
“We recognize that this is a deeply personal matter, and we hope that he and everyone involved are afforded the privacy, respect, and space they need as the legal process moves forward,” the statement read in part. “We also appreciate him making that difficult decision in the best interest of the Democratic Party, our candidates, and the voters of Pitt County.”
“Our Party expects candidates for public office and all elected officials to meet high standards of integrity and accountability, and when circumstances arise that could undermine the public’s confidence, we act decisively to keep the focus where it belongs -- on earning the trust of the voters and delivering results for the people of Pitt County,” the statement continued.

Secret peeping?! That’s kind of a weird offense. I’m sure that millions of people have secret peeped.
Seems like a lot of Democrats all across the country are having various scandals.
And the GOP seems to be trying to attract attention from the voters mostly by diminishing President Trump.
Seems like our side could be capitalizing on this a bit better.
The article just says he took a picture of a woman without her consent, which makes it sound like it happened on the subway or something. They are charging it as a felony so they should have reasonable basis to believe that these elements were present (according to Gemini):

6. Purpose of Sexual Gratification The image must be captured for the specific purpose of arousing or gratifying the sexual desire of any person. The law does not require it to be for the defendant’s own gratification; it applies if it is captured to satisfy someone else’s desire as well.

You have no expectation of privacy in public. My guess: This weirdo Democrat (but I repeat myself) was spying on someone where privacy could reasonably be expected.
North Carolina candidates can be replaced before 120 prior to the election. That day was July 6. So sad.

Tying him to other Democrats would be nice but there’s no other real benefit in this particular case because Schuyler had zero chance of winning in November anyway — District 6 is far and away the most Republican district in Pitt County.

WBTV is based in Charlotte, one of the 4 major leftist enclaves in NC (Raleigh, Wilmington, Asheville are others), so it is fitting they run cover for the dude.
They begin with “A political candidate in North Carolina...”, instead of something like, say, “Republican gubernatorial nominee Mark Robinson...” in a comparably embarrassing story.
